$200 - 250 K for four years as of 2013 http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/02/14/16966278-army-wants-outspoken-west-point-cadet-to-pay-up |
Which school was it? I have a stack of papers at home listing all the various NM full rides and full tuition plus scholarships my child was offered. It is very easy to get this info from the schools. In fact, I have felt as though they are constantly calling and emailing and sending regular mail that includes the amounts they are offering in big print. |
So its upto $250,000 not $400,000. |
There's a variety of numbers for the Naval Academy in this older College Confidential thread: from about $240,000 up to about $400,000. It really just depends what you include in the amount. Probably the best answer said that the value is priceless.
Most of these kids would be going to high level schools costing $60,000 plus per year, so that's what their parents would be paying at a comparable school. |
Forgot the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/naval-academy-annapolis/332933-value-of-usna-appointment.html The numbers are from a few years ago, so probably could be adjusted upward as tuitions have risen in general since then. |
I'm the poster who asked. Thanks! DS wants to go visit Juniata. If they offer merit aid, we're there! Was your DC recruited for a sport? |

This thread has been hijacked by the TJ parents!
Please, can anyone else answer OP's original question? |
Out of state public universities give merit aid? |
Yes, many do. Some even have a chart on their websites that shows the amounts students with certain combinations of test scores and grades will receive. The higher the test scores and grades, the more merit money. It's nice because you know the minimum you will definitely be awarded and many times there are other amounts for which a student may additionally qualify. |
| DD got her largest merit award from an out of state public. 1/2 tuition. |
Or not. Many of us with reasonably high HHI cannot afford those schools, nor do we qualify for need-based aid. |
Very true, but that is the type of school these kids have the stats for. Most of these kids would qualify for merit aid at schools that offer it. |
Yes! My kid went to Alabama for free. |
I know of 3 cases in the class of 2015 who got enough merit aid to make the cost the same as attending an in-state (VA) school - Case Western Tulane Univ of Minnesota |
So sorry... |
