I don't understand why people harp on the hospital not having highly specialized equipment. Not every hospital is prepared to handle something like this. This is news?

WTF -- so it's ok for hospitals to be unprepared and then hang their nurses out to dry? I realize that not every local hospital is prepped for everything -- doesn't CDC realize that? Why not come up with a protocol that involves isolating a patient like this who walks in, not having any staff with him (which I realize sucks for that patient but is needed to protect people), and then get the local department of health to get adequate PPE to that hospital within x number of hrs or arrange for transport to a bigger regional hospital that can handled this.

No, it's not okay. What brought you to that assumption? However, the scenario above is unlikely. Hospitals won't ring the bell for everyone walking in with flu-like symptoms.

Have you ever worked at a Hospital? There is no way that hospitals are ready for Ebola. Staff are always overworked and never have all the things they need to treat patients. A thousand things go wrong a day at every hospital in this country. Sometimes doctors and nurses just are glad the patients survived their shifts. This is on a normal day without the deadly Ebola virus.

Of course she deserves it if she's a match. I hope that at some point she will apologize for her poor choices, but you know what -- CDC effed up by not telling her to stay put and also if it pushed her off when she called with a fever and Tx Presby messed up with its general lack of preparedness, equipment, and help or support for these nurses. But for the CDC and Tx Presby, she may not even be in this situation at all.

If we had closed our borders and did not let Duncan in these two hospital workers would not have Ebola. Lesson learned. I blame the CDC for down playing the risk of Ebola to the US.

CDC now confirmed they okayed her flight. She called repeatedly to ask and express her concerns and they told her to go on the flight.

Never, EVER in my life did I think I would agree with John Boehner about anything ever, but yes to this assertion:

"A temporary ban on travel to the United States from countries afflicted with the virus is something that the president should absolutely consider along with any other appropriate actions as doubts about the security of our air travel systems grow".

Obama keeps saying that a pandemic is inevitable if we don't treat people in West Africa and, yes, we absolutely need to address the illness over there. But why the HELL are we also not keeping out travelers who've been in affected areas without instituting a quarantine. What the hell is the CDC thinking ????

Can we sue every person who comes from West Africa and brings Ebola? Maybe the nurse should sue Mr Duncan's family. He should never have gotten on the plane here.

It makes no sense for the CDC director to say that the second nurse should not have traveled but then to say that is ok for people to travel directly here from the Hot Zone of West Africa.
