Let me test out my DCUM telepathy: I'm guessing this is an atheist troll pretending to be Catholic.

Do I win??? Please, please?

You need to stop smoking, it's getting to your brain.

I am not an atheist.
I am not a Muslim.
I am not Jewish.
I have not posted in any other threads in the religion forum and have never said anything against Christians.
I am not the poster who replied after my post identifying myself as German.

I can NOT believe how many hateful assumptions are being made here. The only thing I have said is instead of focusing on getting each other out of each others religions and trying to get each other into our own religions - why don't we all focus on being as good of a person as we can be and serve God the best we can? That's all I said. I find all the hate quite amusing...it sure doesn't yell "Good Christian" to me.

And just to clarify: I am German. I am catholic. I firmly believe in God - I do not believe in the Church as an institution. I live my life the way I think God wants me to live it. Not the way some church tells me to. And that's what I wish everyone else would do. Then there wouldn't be so much hate and arguing between all the different churches and we could all go back to just being good Christians.

You sound like a pure Protestant!

Nope. Small "c" catholic means more in the way of "universal." She's developed her own brand of spirituality ("I live my life the way I think God wants me to live it") even as she repeatedly bashes other people for choosing different churches.

Her issue is with institutions like churches. She claims the world would be protected against "hate and arguing" if everybody eschewed institutional religions and simply developed their own interpretations of Christianity -- just like she does, surprise.

I don't buy it for a second. Think of all the damage, hate and arguing perpetrated by extremist individuals acting alone - religious and atheists alike.

PS. Whatever German PP thinks she's doing spiritually, it doesn't seem to protect her from thinking her way is the "right" way and everybody else is wrong. Go back a few pages to 06/14/2014 @ 14:49 to get a typical (just one of many) example of her tone. Christian? Judge for yourself.

The sneering and jeering in that 14:49 post are not Christian qualities. I don't think her approach is working for her.

This from page 9? Yes, it's not terribly impressive or loving.

This thread is hilarious...Unbelievable how every single person on earth thinks THEIR religion is the one and only religion. How THEIR religion got it all right and all other religions have some kind of flaws. You all are SO self-righteous it's simply hilarious.

You either believe in God, or you don't. You either try to be a good person to the best of your ability or you don't. And that is where it ends. Everything else is just made up rules and regulations of all kinds of different varieties of religions. Get. Over. Yourselves. People.

Unbelievable...

OP here again, and what this long thread illustrates is how divisive the Catholic Church and its teachings are. Yes, all churches have this to a degree, but in my church we are encouraged to seek God in our own way. There aren't a list of rules and regs that you MUST follow to be a good church member, so both my husband and I are comfortable being there and exposing our children to this environment.

I'm glad your family has a house of worship in which everyone is comfortable and feels included.

I wish you had worded your subject line as "my husband joined me at my church," instead of having the main idea read that he left another one, so it sounds as if you are happier that you won a battle of wills than formed a community within your household.

It is hurtful.

- 1 If you were raised catholic or in another religion that stressed rules and regs over acceptance and love, you might feel differently. And please consider that many people don't think of the place they go to meet with like-minded others as a "house of worship" but rather as a community of people who share the same values.
