Elon University - is it as good as it "looks"?

Nice. How different from Hanover, Williamstown, Middletown, Grinnell, or Oberlin?

My cousin went there specifically for this and I went to Wake nearby in Winston so I am pretty familiar with the school. Nice school, nice students.

I'm glad you posted that because, I, too, share the same opinion and I work in college counseling. I have suggested ELON to several of my LD and ADHD clients.

Wow, PP must be truly horrible at her job.

Agreed. It was where all the pretty, B- cheerleaders went from my high school.

One of the worst students from my dd's private school went there.

Nominee for the least helpful comment ever.

Elon Grad Here. I've probably posted on this forum before.

I enjoyed my time at Elon. The school is not a "sit in the classroom and get by" kind of campus. Students are involved in so many activities and classrooms use an experiential type of learning. I think my largest class size was 30ish there. It is a pretty campus, in a nice part of NC. No, it isn't UNC or Duke, but I feel like my education prepared me for the world pretty well.

Elon has an amazing study abroad program. Everyone I know took at least one winter session abroad. That was probably my favorite Elon experience.

I can see how this would be a good school for kids with ADHD or LD. The professors are actively involved with students, willing to help, and there's an extensive network of help available.

There's a pretty active DC Alumni group too.

same here. I graduated from UNC in late 90s and Elon had a nice reputation as a smaller, more personalized school for kids who needed more learning support (so ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, etc). I have only heard nice things about it. Somehow in the last few years its reputation has extended beyond that specialization (which could be good or bad I guess).

It seems to have become a "hot" school in the last few years. Probably not a first choice school, but a safety that everyone I've known who ended up there raves about.

I toured the school with my son, who didn't end up applying, and we were both very impressed. I think it was my favorite campus out of all of the schools we looked at. I got the feeling that a student wouldn't fall through the cracks there and it felt very inclusive. My son wanted a big school and is studying business, so not the best fit, but I could see my DD going to Elon so will bring her for a tour this spring.
