One thing about Bush is that he always took the time to spend with kids - always, no matter what.

Stupid, really? You are not fit to carry the man's shoes. I refuse to debate with the petulant boys of dcum. There is some deeper unresolved personal issue that keeps you nipping at POTUS's heels. Actually it's a very ugly little series of issues. To debate you is to just fuel your feverish little fantasies.

Correct. I invite you to join me in refusing to respond to obsessive inanity.

Has perry asked Obama for federal help with the drought and fires yet? I don't think the rest of the country should pay for a Texas' problems.

Another anonymous here. I'm sick of the guy. I stopped coming here for a while because of him, and Jeff banished him so I came back. Now he's doing the same nonsense again, and it's childish. I might go away, even though I would like a forum to talk about politics. But it's a shame, because I don't like the typical political websites. They are usually full of one side or the other, and there's no point joining a site where everyone agrees with each other.

I think y'all are missing good opportunities to amuse ourselves by mocking and satirizing him.

The mocking has gotten old. And I sometimes think he really does have a mental problem. He had this weird hygiene thing going on a while back, and this odd belief that conservative politics makes people physically attractive. I'm sure it will flare up again soon.

There's not just one rabid Obama hater here, though, is there? There's the all-lower-case guy* - I think he's "panty-sniffer" to you who have been here longer.** The athleticism obsessive seems like a different guy to me.

And what happened to "brace for impact" guy? Was that just sniffer? I'd be surprised if that guy is still here, w/o his catch phrase - he was pretty devoted to that.

I would guess four Fauxians at least:
- sniffer
- "brace for impact"
- bowling is everything
- a generic Fauxian

Then there are me, Jeff, and an anonymous guy, overrepresenting the One True Left.

Seems like only a few dedicated Dems, including the one who pops by to say we dedicated leftists are racist haters bringing down the man.

And takoma...left for sure...mainstream Dem?

That's as best as I've been able to tell. I haven't noticed any non-TP Rep regulars here. Maybe they're avoiding association with the embarrassing relatives.

* I tend to think of everyone here as men. I won't explore why, b/c that's boring.
** I'd like to hear the story - it involves Obama's campaign plane, the word "stinky," and a banning? Probably not nearly as interesting as that sounds.

Sniffer is also the "...." guy, athleticism and I'm pretty sure brace for impact, and he can't spell. His weird thing is that he connects political ideology to other human qualities such as smell, physical attractiveness, athletic ability, more recently mental illness, etc. He imagines that conservative ideology makes a person more "healthy" and that liberal ideology causes disease. So he projects images onto people based on how he views their politics. And sometimes it gets creepy. He is completely inconsistent in his complaints but that does not bother him in the least.

There was one other guy, an angry guy who would keep reposting the same rant, get in a fight with Jeff, and then complain about being censored even though you could still see his posts in at least a few places. He is easily distinguished because he is more angry and less of a candidate for mental health services. Maybe he is your generic fauxian.

The fact that I even can identify some people by their grammar or line of argument in an anonymous forum is even more convincing proof that I should just depart. I can't remember the last time we had a good conversation about Israel, Arab Spring, Libya, etc. And by "good" I mean a discussion of direction and outcomes for the region, not who in American politics managed to look good or bad on any given day.

A while back I tried some thoughtful posts about various subjects and got little traction. I then tried some provocative posts that disguised real issues (like the future of the Republican party) and didn't get anything interesting, even though there should be a real debate about direction. As a test I created a crap thread, something like "Boehner who's your daddy" and got flooded with responses. Now I find myself posting to balance out the list of conservative mocking posts with equivalent mocking posts from the left. And that's actually rather sad.

But the fact is that I can't get much honest conservative discussion from them, no matter what I try. It's all flame, no spark. I don't know if there aren't any smart ones, or if collectively the whole thing has been brought down by a few idiots. Sorry I didn't respond to your (or Takoma's?) budget thread. I know you tried to do the same thing, but I recall doing the same exercise a few months ago and I think we posted about it.

The sad thing is that I want a forum with different ideologies because debate is good. But it has to have some actual content. There is good conservative content, but I have yet to see it displayed in an online forum. Maybe it only resides in think tanks and editorial columnists.

Huh. I definitely would have said the bowling/"snakebit" guy was different than no caps guy, but I haven't watched closely.

Yeah, well that disease comes straight from the media, unfortunately. Half of the the Newshour's stories horse-race, and it's worse than that on NPR.

There are certainly some smart libertarians around (not here, as far as I've seen). I haven't encountered a non-Fauxian mainstream Republican in several years. There can't be many of them left, I guess other than super-rich types who aren't in my social circle.

I've definitely found it, but not in a political forum - it was a forum for a computer baseball game. There were still crazies, but it seemed like more of a cross-section.

Since you wondered about where I fit, I'd say definitely left, but still figuring that voting Dem is the best available way for me to go, even though I'm not happy with the party these days.

I have seen some very thoughtful posts from conservatives. But I think they tend to specify that they are fiscal conservatives but social liberals, so they probably don't qualify to reflect a Tea Party point of view. They were anonymous, so I have no idea if they are still around. Or whether I am correct in using a plural, for that matter.

As a side remark, it's hard for me to read TP as Tea Party rather than Takoma Park, but I'm getting used to it here on DCUM.

You did a great job of summarizing some of the DCUM political forum characters. What I will add is that Panty Sniffer is a very odd duck who I can't figure out. You can basically call the guy any name in the book, insult him in any way, and he will not be rattled. I do agree that he may be a brick or two short a load. The other thing is that his IP address is constantly changing. So, blocking him from this site is a bit difficult. Frequently I feel that Panty Sniffer is simply someone having a go at us (and very successfully I might add).

There are several smart conservatives around here, but some of them haven't shown themselves lately. There is the poster who always calls me "Mr. Steele" who I haven't seen around in a while. But, I think these posters are also being scared away by the loonies. The ranter guy that I banned was from Georgia. The fact that he posted here was always a bit surprising to me. The right wing is really dominated by chain emails -- chain emails almost rival Fox News as an information source I think. I often think that many of the right wing posts here are organized efforts and I wonder how many people come here because of chain email, if any. Also, it is amazing how fast a story goes from a Drudge headline to a DCUM topic.

You could start using super cookies to tag /block people like that. It's a thought. Most people wouldn't know how to get rid of them. ID somebody by their current IP, place the cookie, and after it's set a few times for the various devices they use, remember to reset the code so that you don't tag the next recipient of the recycled IP. Something like that.
