Lots of HS families liked the calendar this year. I know its not everyone's preference, but many did like it and their voices can be heard from this survey.

Many of the ES families who are up in arms about the calendar this year will be happy in three years when THEY have the extra days off when their kids are in HS.

No, I expect to have high school students with busy, enriching summers. I don’t want them wasting their time in classrooms until the end of June so some student whose parents have neglected their needs can get a day to catch up on their work.

I’m confused. I thought you wanted more school?

Aren't the SOL and AP dates set by people other than FCPS?

If so, wouldn't it follow that students could have a shorter year if there's fewer holidays set by FCPS that otherwise lengthen the school year?

This is why we should have year round school that starts at the beginning of August and lets out at the beginning of June. It would align very well with the SOL and AP exams.

High Schoolers are only 30% of the school population.

Not every high schoool parent loved tgat calendar. Most did not like it.

+1 same for us. We were able to get dr appointments and dentist appointments in on those random days off. Kids actually missed less school because of it.

Random days off are awful. No one, not even my kids want them. What they want is to be on summer break NOW!!

I suspect it is a small handful of people posting repeatedly that they "LOVED" the school calendar.

In real life, very few people, including very few parents of high schoolers, say they loved it. Most people, especially high school parents and teachers, complain about it

High school attendance was the worst this year, especially with all the 3 day weeks. The eff'd up schedule made it easier for kids to cut class and skip class

From what I've heard, elementary school teachers didn't like it. At the secondary level though, my colleagues and I largely loved it.

We loved the days off. My child got extra sleep and was able to keep up and not have to spend every waking weekend working to stay afloat.

Not at all! We like the extra day to sleep in and catch up on stuff. I look forward to weeks with early releases and holidays!

Learn to organize your life better. No one wants to be in school now and sitting at home in January, February.

We are very organized. We also very much enjoyed the extra sleep and catch up days.

Year round school would have kids sitting at home for two weeks after every quarter. No thanks!

There was no “struggle” but there was a LOT of work. My child is in all honors and AP classes and maintains straight As.

I don’t have concerns. My child is a straight A student in high level classes. My child thinks they also made 5s on all their AP exams - the extra days off provided lots of study time! We loved it.

This is a description of a child who is struggling. It should’ve been addressed through intervention.
