I understand you love the ITOC but you don't understand why Jawando's plan was not workable on a completely different level

Jawando’s plan cut spending growth to 4.2 percent. If you can’t figure out a way to get by on a 4.2 percent spending growth, you’re not working hard enough. This kind of can’t-do attitude is why the budget is a mess. But hey at least we’re still dropping $20 million on the green bank.

Most of the cuts he recommended involved essentially kicking the can down the road. Stuff that needs to be done and if it waits will end up costing more. Some were quite non specific, others were simply not permissible under the county code.

Not that poster but they back themselves into a corner by approving all the salary and benefit increases in the collective bargaining agreements. There were few good cuts in Jawando's proposal. And of the ones that were good, he never moved to cut them. It was very odd.

Without a robust local media, you all will have to do the work and read reports and listen to hearings. Most of them have a very superficial understanding of what's really going on. They may present like they are super knowledgable. Key word, "present."

Again, the other members could have proposed offsetting cuts to reduce spending growth. They didn’t. The fact remains that Jawando put a lot more effort and energy into fixing this mess than either of the other two executive candidates. I expected that of Glass because he likes to go with the crowd. Friedson was a disappointment. He has talked big talk about controlling tax burden for eight years and every year he votes for all the spending. I thought maybe this would be the year.
