| They all need to be voted out. |
Sorry how is that different from what they ended up doing? They used one-time money to fund the operating budget and deferred school HVAC maintenance, among other things. They also passed a tax plan that makes a married couple earning more than $75k pay a higher marginal income tax rate than they do today. That same couple couldn’t even afford to rent one of the “workforce housing units” without being rent burdened. There were some good and bad cuts in the Jawando budget. He expressed a willingness to cut a lot more on the record than either of his two opponents and showed a better grasp of the details during the hearings. |
For starters, Jawando's plan was not feasible from a legal perspective |
Not that poster but they back themselves into a corner by approving all the salary and benefit increases in the collective bargaining agreements. There were few good cuts in Jawando's proposal. And of the ones that were good, he never moved to cut them. It was very odd. Without a robust local media, you all will have to do the work and read reports and listen to hearings. Most of them have a very superficial understanding of what's really going on. They may present like they are super knowledgable. Key word, "present." |
Clearly he didn't since his proposal violated a bunch of rules. |
| So are these 3 are only options for county exec? I don’t trust any of them. This county is run by incompetent self-serving jerks. |
Again, the other members could have proposed offsetting cuts to reduce spending growth. They didn’t. The fact remains that Jawando put a lot more effort and energy into fixing this mess than either of the other two executive candidates. I expected that of Glass because he likes to go with the crowd. Friedson was a disappointment. He has talked big talk about controlling tax burden for eight years and every year he votes for all the spending. I thought maybe this would be the year. |
Ding ding ding |
Oh please, Jawando had no workable solution. |
Hey Jawando staffer - do tell us what Jawando was willing to cut. And what details does Will know the other people running for the office don't? |
Not a Jawando staffer, but his proposal to cut the green bank was enough to get my vote. |
| Great with every boneheaded hike my Frederick County Property jumps in value! |
While I agree the green bank is a waste of taxpayer money, this post only underscores that despite county residents being such a well educated workforce, we are a very superficial voter pool. |
|
This will continue until people start either voting differently at the ballot box or voting with their feet and moving to a different county.
I do not expect either of those to happen. |
You are correct. Very unlikely we escape this spiral. |
