WTF $150K here is nothing. Is this $150K for single filers?
MoCo keeps increasing taxes rather than thinking about cutting the budget. And the kids are not doing any better year after year of giving MCPS more money. So sick of this place. https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/05/08/straw-vote-divided-county-council-supports-progressive-income-tax-structure/ |
This is funnier:
Renters don't need the credit because they don't pay property taxes in the first place. Idiots. |
| Of course they are. $150k isn’t even that high of an income anymore. |
|
Since you can't really afford to buy a decent house in MoCo is you make under 250 or so now, this is ridiculous.
150k is barely making it here if you actually own property and don't have roommates. |
| I think this is a dumb policy, but it's literally only a 0.1% increase. That is only $1,000 more income taxes if you make around 1.15M per year. This is a negligible amount of taxes and most people won't care. |
+1. We make $300K, so this is $300. In Arlington county right now, they are getting increases well above this amount just for their cars alone, not to mention the increases they're also facing in property taxes. |
Yes and it is a progressive tax. The tax rate is decreasing for others with lower income. This 0.1 % increase will apply to me and I am fine with it if others get a bit more of a break. |
|
This tax increase will hit many people who makes less than $150k and own a home. People who make less than $150k and own their home will take an even harder hit than people who make $150k.
The income tax relief doesn’t take effect until next year. Property tax bills are due this year. Some people will see 10-20 percent property tax increases as a result of this bill. Increasing rents by that amount is constructive eviction and illegal in this county |
I care. I have to pay for outside tutoring and therapies for my kids as Mcps is a nightmare so that 300 is much better spent on them than more funding for Mcps whose aready cutting staff and other things for next year. |
| Private tutoring is a privilege. It’s time for the rich to pay their fair share. |
We pay under $10 an hour. How is that a privilege especially when your child is struggling? |
You and Bethesda Magazine don't understand tax brackets. Filers reporting $150,001 to $900,000 in taxable income will pay less income taxes in Tax Year 2027 when compared to the flat 3.2% tax rate in Tax Year 2026. The tax break will be reduced to $0 at $900,000 of taxable income https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/news/montgomery-update-homeowners-could-pay-higher-taxes-under-new-council-plan-eliminate-tax-credit-fewer-families-experiencing-homelessness-public-safety-progress-silver-spring |
You earn a million dollars per year? Cry harder. |
Property taxes are paid from rental income, idiot |
OP is misinformed. The income tax is not a problem. The ITOC property tax credit is o Filers that report less than $135,500 in taxable income and previously received the ITOC will pay more in aggregate income and property taxes when compared to FY26. The aggregate change is $0 at taxable income of $135,500. o Filers that report $135,500 to $208,000 will pay less in aggregate income and property taxes when compared to FY26. The maximum benefit is $58 less in aggregate taxes at taxable income of $150,000. o Filers that report more than $208,000 will pay more in aggregate income and property taxes when compared to FY26 |
