This dress was really comfy and the waist is extremely flattering. I’m really not a fan of puffed sleeves — these are ever so slightly puffed. This dress ended up looking a little school marmish on me, maybe because the puffed sleeves which maybe don’t work after “a certain age.” Probably returning but would be cute on someone that can carry off a puffed sleeve. This one felt slightly more dressy than the casual wear to farmers market vibe or vacation vibe I wanted but I could wear it to work, I think, and would probably even work with a blazer.

I wanted to love this and i actually hope one of you gets it.
It’s a gorgeous soft clay color and is incredibly comfortable and cool. The pockets are great. Unfortunately, I am long waisted with a menopause belly and the high waist on it makes me look pregnant. If you don’t have a belly (or maybe if you’re short waisted or have a bigger bust that could hide the belly?), this would be a great summer casual dress. I’m really sad this one didn’t look good because the fabric and color are great.

I actually ordered this in long so it hits right below my knees. It’s pretty flattering although I feel like my mom maybe had a very similar dress in the early 80s? I might keep this because with the longer length I think I can wear this to work on Friday and just put a cardigan on for the office — I commute by metro so really like cool things for that July commute. It’s also a practical, wear around dress and would work for like a casual bbq. So not exciting but comfortable and flattering.

This one is actually more flattering on than in the photos I think. I feel like I could wear it around on vacation, to a bbq type thing, and also maybe for Fridays at work with nicer flats. I also feel like it could wear it into fall with a jacket and boots and maybe switch up the belt. It’s comfortable and the pockets hang well. The only downside is that — as often happens — I feel like the printed jersey doesn’t feel as substantial as the solid color jersey. I’m hoping it will wear okay and not loose shape but I think I will gamble on it.

I always wait a couple of days and then try everything on again … so we’ll see. I might try gojng down to marine layer and trying on some dresses there too.

Hmmm. I might be the one who gets it.

New poster: Thank you for these detailed reviews. I am going to try the first one based on your review. I am long waisted without a belly and I think the adjustable belt will work for me. I agree with you about the puffed sleeves. I ordered a jersey long sleeved shirt from Boden only to find it had puffed sleeves. At 64, that is not a good look for me, but I was able to take the sleeve apart and resew it because I did love the top.

Here's what I've bought or want to buy for the summer:

I'm mid 40s, 5'7'', 135

I got this maxi last year in a navy polka dot print (I wear it with the straps): https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens/categories/clothing/dresses-and-jumpsuits/smocked-maxi-dress-in-cotton-voile/CI259?color_name=radiant-cobalt&N=SMALL&noPopUp=true&srsltid=AfmBOoq1eyhs5V9IUDjJYtpSMsgscS9uat7kTFvhesLqmfY6JREpBV9E04U#no_universal_links

Simple but sleek: https://www.moderncitizen.com/products/rae-sculpted-scoop-neck-mini-dress-black?variant=41278430904383&country=US¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=18096969250&tw_kwdid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=18095533368&gbraid=0AAAAAC6uCPoiOoitw5-dCbHiLK7SnxMHC&gclid=CjwKCAjwqazPBhALEiwAOuXqdARBmDa9LzGD819cPzEZ1EA6lgjSUQ4_ELqI3mlN_66vWgfQPEL2hRoCJnMQAvD_BwE

Everyday throw on dress that can be dressed down with flip-flops for the farmers market or work with heels and a clutch for dinner (my coloring is better with brown than black so I'm aiming for more brown): https://charcoalclothing.com/collections/dresses-1/products/conway-mini-dress-chocolate

I also like this one for a light color which I don't gravitate towards because I do a lot of hands-on stuff and tend to stain things immediately: https://evereve.com/products/lillian-linen-shift-dress-banana

Considering this but haven't tried it on and don't want it to be shapeless: https://evereve.com/products/saba-dress-primaverastripe

I’m not a fan of any of your “elevated choices.”

Of course you aren't. You can head back to Talbot's and Chico's now...

I’m early 30s and call these “your husband had an affair and you stayed” dresses.

Jeez, you’re kind of a b—, huh?
I’m not sure who posts those kind of comments and thinks it makes them look clever or cool.

It makes her look particularly uncool.

I wasn’t even clear on what it meant.

Great reviews! I *love* the first one and had thought about ordering it a few weeks ago. The cut and slightly Grecian goddess look to it is so flattering. But the coral shade of pink just won't work on me, sadly (and I already have a ton of navy). Love it, though!

Snotty poster is upset that no one liked her choices.

I have loved Boden for years -- I still have some stuff that I bought 20 years ago, including the adorable kids clothes for my daughters who are now teens. But I'm very disappointed about how expenisve it has gotten. I seems to have skyrocketed over the past few years. It makes me sad to abandom the brand but I can't afford it anymore.

You insult DCUM "fashion" and then your first link is to a tube top maxi dress that looks like a beach coverup. Interesting. The black short dress has a weird neckline/arm juxtaposition that doesn't look flattering. Don't know how anyone's boobs fit in the brown short dress. The linen shift from Evereve is fine. The last link also looks like a beach coverup.

Are you the charming person who posted this?

I am not, have no idea what this refers to but I’m also looking at the men’s sandals post with all the nasty comments there… anyone who thinks all men’s sandals are ugly has no business giving fashion advice to anyone, ever.

1. No
2. I’m older and dress conservatively now. I’m partial to linen shirt dresses and if I was starting to look and wanted someplace easy/accessible I’d try Cos or maybe Aritzia. Farm Rio has bolder styles if I was feeling adventurous (I’m not). Some hideous crap but some nice things there. Watch the materials bc they’ll sneak in crap.

3. No but DCUM is very rude overall so you can’t be that insulted by one comment about dresses
