I was in a Rolex AD this morning to meet with my sales associate. They have a CPO platinum Rolex Daytona with the Tiffany blue dial. The MSRP is $84,800 and it’s difficult to obtain. The certified pre-owned price in the store is $108,000.

The X-33 is a very cool watch. I almost bought one at a Costco many years ago. Here’s a good review of the watch.

Below is an excellent podcast that offers an exhaustive history of Rolex. It’s an interesting story about an orphan building one of the best known luxury brands in the world.

Some of the marketing material they came up with:

“A Rolex will never change the world, we leave that to the people who wear them.”

“Men who guide the destinies of the world wear Rolex.”

“When a man has the world in his hands, you expect to find a Rolex on his wrist.”

The GMT-Master II can look great on a woman’s wrist. Its 40mm width and 48mm lug to lug length makes it the perfect size for smaller wrists, especially on a jubilee bracelet.

What a weird thing to lie about. There is no such thing as a platinum Daytona with a Tiffany dial.

I described the blue color as “Tiffany blue,” it’s not a co-branded watch with Tiffany(though Tiffany sold Rolexes with their name on the dials in the 60s, 70s and 80s).

This YouTuber gets it. Rolex customers are “low interest/low information,” and that’s a good thing, surprisingly.

Next week the annual Watches and Wonders exposition kicks off in Geneva. The show is where brands unveil their new designs and models. It’s like Fashion Week, or Cannes, but for watches. This year the major buzz is about a possible discontinuation, rather than any new release. In recent years rumors have swirled every JFM that Rolex would discontinue the iconic Pepsi GMT. It never came to fruition but strong indicators are pointing towards it finally happening. Only Rolex would contemplate discounting one of their most sought after, most difficult watches to get your hands on. Prices on the pre-owned secondary market have already spiked to $26,000 - $30,000(retail price is $12,000). If the discontinuation becomes official at W&W that price will spike even higher.

"Rolex Ambassador" = someone paid to wear a Rolex, not someone who bought a Rolex

The ice blue and tiffany blue are completely different colors and a Rolex salesperson wouldn't confuse such basic details about their most in-demand models.

It's ok, you won't be the first nor the last old man with too much time on his hands who makes up ridiculous stories.

Okay Sherlock, here’s a short story about assumptions.

The CPO case is across the large jewelry store from the dedicated Rolex showroom. I quickly browsed the case to see how outrageous the prices were. I only purchase at MSRP. I never mentioned the CPO Daytona to my sales associate, we had other things to discuss.

I’m sorry to ruin your gotcha moment. Keep trying little buddy.

Jealous is not a good look, I agree. We will enjoy our watches...we earned them.
