Sure, but they don’t enter HB in February of 10th/11th/12th grade. What part of that don’t you understand?

Yes they do! What part of this don't YOU understand?

They do not. In the event a spot opens up it goes to someone on the waitlist

You just don't know what you don't know. Keep spewing your ignorance.

So you are suggesting a family moves to the US and into APS, and they transfer to HBW by bypassing the hundreds long waitlist?? So there are HBW back doors, which has been hinted at before?

there is a program for English learners but if a new refugee family moves here in March, those kids are not going to show up at the doorstep of HB in March and get a seat.

Not a backdoor at all, there is a program for English learners. Unless you consider that a backdoor, I don't.

Oh so a moment ago you didn't even know this program exists and now you're an expert on what they don't do? Give me a break! Go have a seat and let the adults who have a clue talk.

That is a different poster. So the scenario you describe is someone leaves HBW who is part of this programs and that same month, a new family immigrates and takes their spot and there is no waitlist for English language learners? Can you link to this program? I actually have trouble with my English too all of a sudden.

such a gross comment

NP and this is also fascinating to me. Please provide more info. I did a search of APS website and this is mentioned nowhere.

Why do you feel entitled to more info on this? The people who need it have it. You are clearly not in need of these services.

Is this for real? We’re all entitled to transparent information about taxpayer funded school programs and policies.

Look weirdo conspiricy theorist who probably has an 11th grade education, it's all in the budget. Including transfers, and where they come from. Your kid didn't get into HBW b/c they weren't special enough, did not bribe the right person, speaks the English too well and isn't the right kind of sped kid. Sorry but the fact is, you just didn't win the lottery and hate the two who got in from your school. Go decorate for the holidays. You might feel better after.

I found it for the PP, which took me all of 3 minutes. It's a tiny footnote on one table in the budget. Why be such a jerk about it though. I don't get it. It's not a conspiracy theory for people to say they want to see information. Share the information with people. I don't see mention of this policy anywhere else on APS website.

"Schools that accept enrollment through a lottery process can also include students from the Secondary Program for Students with Autism (Grade 6 to 12) and H.S. HILT students
(English Learners) enter through the year (Grade 9 to 12). H-B Woodlawn is an example of such a school."

Not the PP but it probably had to do with being accused of lying just because the poster was too lazy to do what you did and find it themselves!

It sounded like a bit of a stretch and it's not great that the only mention of this is buried in a footnote in a table in a budget book and it's only mentioned obliquely without a fuller explanation. Of course this is intentional on APS's part because they likely know it would be inflammatory. How is APS deciding which ESL kids even get the HB slot? What is the process? How many are we talking about? And then why drop the clue it's in the budget book and not just provide the info? My question still stands. Why so defensive and not wanting to share information?

It's not the only mention. Not the PP who provided this link, but I also knew about this program, and then some quick googling brought up more than one mention. Why didn't you do that?

NP. I googled. It’s not a lot of info that I can find. General mentions of the program existing. How many slots allotted for these students and how are they selected should be transparent.

Why? I think English language learner records are confidential, just like special ed records are. You wouldn't feel entitled to info about sped kids, or would you?

It’s not asking to see any individual student records. It’s aggregate data which APS presents all the time. How many seats are allotted to the program and what is the process for filling them is not confidential information.

MYOB

You sound like one of those APE a-holes.

Is this an HBW trait, to always attack and name call? Is it like a rule, like fight club?

i mean you're the one attacking hb parents...

Asking for an admission program policy, process, and records is attacking? You are one saying I’m APE or racist.

as others have explained to you, it's a special program for kids who don't speak English. This doesn't apply to you.

Without process or policy, this could the infamous HBW backdoor. Who would ever know?

Seems APS is trying to hide this policy/program and this poster didn't sound too eager to share it either beyond using it to make their point which I still think is doubtful that HB is somehow carrying it's fair share of the ESL student load. The existence of this program with no or hard to find information on how many students or how they are selected doesn't really help the PP's original point. (Or is that buried somewhere else in the budget document and the next clue on this journey will be an insult-laden post about how any idiot could find it but we're all too lazy?)

It's odd actually that this is how it is handled by APS. Just own it APS.

one of the hb parents here. if we were trying to hide this program then why would we inform you that it exists?

Did you read the thread? If it doesn’t exist, then HBW has another advance over neighborhood schools who must take anyone the day they show up in their boundary, vs HBW only accepting from lottery and thus more assimilated students. The PP only mentioned it in defense to that original critique, but then got cagey on details.

Can you link to this program? I actually have trouble with my English too all of a sudden.

Asking for an admission program policy, process, and records is attacking? You are one saying I’m APE or racist.

We all know why you want this info -- so you can figure out a way to lobby for this program to go somewhere else so your own kid can get into HB and take the spot that you feel sooo entitled to. It kills you that these poor brown kids are getting something your own kid is not, doesn't it?

If you read my previous replies, I’m concerned about the undocumented policy being abused for admission cheating. But I admire your nonstop attacks to silence me by claiming I’m acting out of racism. #HBWFIGHTCLUB

sure you are, you really think those brown kids fresh off the boat who don't speak english who are literally placed into a program at a school they've never heard of are abusing the admissions policy?

My point was it’s a spot that may be allocated to someone who is not an immigrant or English language learner. You are the one taking about race, which actually isn’t a criteria anyways. Keep at it, champ. #HBWFIGHTCLUB

you are the one who won't stop your endless attacks and conspiracy theories. get some mental health help. your obsession with hb is disburbing.

Attack? I asked about why the policy and procedures and the number of transfers under the program wasn’t publicly available. Then I got called a racist. I’m not the one escalating or attacking here. I am amused at the level you will go to not talk about concrete facts about the transfers; “nothing to see here move along” vibe.

you really won't let this go will you? look the only reason you even know that theses tranfers exist is cuz hb parents told you about it back when you claimed hb didn't have to accept any mid year transfers from non english speakers. it's weird that you even turned this thread about block scheduling into one of your rants about hb. so obsessed!
