The treatments are utterly brutal, and only postpone the inevitable.

I am one of the doctors who diagnoses blood cancers, and it feels like these patients are getting younger and younger. 20 years ago I feel like most of my diagnoses of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma were in older people, but now so many are adolescents and young or middle aged adults. It will be interesting to review population data in the coming years.

I feel so bad for her and her family. Just so awful. It’s tragic. It was a well-written and affecting article. Thanks for posting.

Agree that the treatments are incredibly brutal--I'm the pp whose dad and cousin both died of the same type of cancer and, after seeing the treatments, I'm honestly not sure what I would do if I were diagnosed with it.

Wow, so sad.
Jackie Kennedy also died of a form of leukemia, didn’t she? I wonder if it was genetic.

I think Jackie had brain cancer.

Jackie had lymphoma.

So incredibly sad to learn of this news. I was thinking of her last week - wondering if she was able to enjoy her last Christmas with her family. I was really hoping she could live a bit longer. She had so much to offer.

She had non-Hodgkins lymphoma which spread throughout her body. I was always under the impression the impression she took a “cocktail” to end the pain.

Her mom died fairly young, too, at 65. I'm sure that was a hard loss as well.

So sad. She seemed pretty normal for a Kennedy--a talented writer, happily married with two very young children. So sad.

In fairness, I think many of the Kennedy grandkids are somewhat normal. RFK had 34 grandkids and most probably are pretty normal, same with Eunice Kennedy Shriver's 19 grandkids at the time of her death. Ted Kennedy had 8. We forget how many of them there are and focus on the handful in the news.

That's not even counting Jean Kennedy Smith's grandkids. It's a huge family.

+1 Truly, so very sad.

I was not aware (but am not surprised) that she was a published author.
Buying her book and learning from it seems like one small thing I can do in her memory.
