Corporations learned in the middle of the last century that consumer attention could be diverted away from the actions of corporations and toward the actions of individual consumers. Think of the Keep America Beautiful ads from the 1970s and the focus on individual recycling. Home recycling is just a tiny drop in the bucket of our waste problems, but it gave consumers a way to feel like we have some control over the problem and also conveniently gave us something to focus on over here (someone just THREW OUT a soda bottle, that jerk!) while ignoring what’s going on over there (manufacturers throwing massive amounts of waste directly into landfills, plastic single-use packaging, etc, etc).
MAHA is just another in the series of campaigns to distract people from systemic problems by giving them something else on that topic that seems to be under our personal control. Plus bonus points for appealing to well-off and middle-class women as a demographic group. |

MAHA women feel that they were lied to...now??? WTF?!
They were being lied to this whole time by the MAHA politicians. And they knew it. And they still voted in the people who are now doing exactly as they said they would - increasing air pollution, increasing water pollution, increasing pesticides, decreasing immunity, increasing disease and death. This is what the MAHA folks and the MAGA folks voted for. They voted to give all their money to dear leader in exchange for plastics in their brains and dirty air/water/food. FAFO. |
