It’s not that complicated. Congress directed by law that USAID should be a thing. Then the executive branch made it so. |
We were funding “gender specialists” at USAID. No wonder they’re screaming. |
Which is funny because I was sad to learn that so many GenX voted for him and we all grew up on School House Rock. |
I don’t have any strong, ingrained opposition to the idea of return-to-work efforts, cutting costs or reforming USAID. I don’t necessarily have complete opposition to the idea of slashing a little procedural red tape in a dire emergency. The problem is that, in this situation, Musk’s team is: - Failing to do any kind of fact-finding or consultations. - Showing no awareness of or interest in the relevant law or regulations, or any understanding of the bipartisan reasons some rules or programs might be necessary. - Worshipping AI in an idiotic way. Of course it’s great and useful and can do many things. That doesn’t mean you can get rid of two-thirds of the federal workforce this year. AI screws up a lot and needs constant supervision by smart people. It’s simply not ready to take over that much human work in the next two or three years. - Using extreme violations of laws and procedures in a situation that might be troubling but is not a highly time-sensitive emergency. - Doing sensitive work with no vetting or inadequate vetting. - Ignoring data security and data privacy concerns. - Through lack of attention to security, exposing our most sensitive data to Russia and China. - Destabilizing the U.S. dollar. Musk could be tearing into USAID and other agencies without s destabilizing the dollar. The obvious implication is that Musk’s primary goal is to destroy the dollar. |
PP here. I think the intent was an independent agency to handle all non-military economic aid. Though, depending on the language, it could be interpreted as an agency within a department, i.e., the Department of State. |
You just re-wrote what I wrote, only using vague and generic language. |
I don’t believe that is correct. |
Agree |
The fraud is beyond comprehension. |
Yep. It's quite simple. No dumb mumbo jumbo Elon Musk conspiracy theories needed. SIMPLY: USAID is mandated by law. That means shutting down USAID is against the law. |
This is 100% correct |
No, you’re the pathological liar here. |
Yes, Musk is committing incomprehensible fraud. I totally agree. |
I find Musk's fraud to be comprehendable, and contemptible. |
