Private medical information is just that - private. How dare you feel entitled to know someone elses reasons for masking. Mind your own damn business, it doesnt actually make a difference either way. You just like to be able to sh!t on people if their reasons aren't "good enough" for you.

Didn't we just go through a pandemic where schools here were closed for a year and a half, FAR longer than almost anywhere else, and FAR longer than doctors said was necessary, because teachers didn't *feel* it was safe? You'll forgive parents if they are not automatically defer to a teacher's judgement. My kid's pediatrician doesn't wear a mask. My kid's dentist doesn't wear a mask. They see more sick kids more intimately than any teacher (and are far more educated about health risks). It's possible that a teacher has a good reason for wearing a mask. It's also possible the teacher is a bozo, and wearing a mask in the classroom is not costless. It can be hard to hear them, and little kids in particular get a lot of information by reading body language and facial expressions.

+1 Some of the posters on this thread are unhinged. People can choose to wear a mask. It protects the health of the wearer and protects your child from germs too. You don't need to know why, and if you find that problematic--homeschool your precious snowflake.

My kid's pediatrician does wear a mask--which is smart given that she's around sick kids all day. So does the pharmacist at my CVS for the same reason. My DD's teacher still masks.

I know her because my older son and her oldest son played on the same lax team. That's how I know that she has a younger child who was a transplant recipient when he was a toddler.

She always masked at school even before the pandemic because even minor illnesses could be catastrophic for her younger son.

In the same vein, I did not share my child's ADHD and ASD diagnosis with the school, nor ask for an IEP/504 which would have revealed it. I'm sure the school and most definitely the teacher would like to have that information, but it's private medical information as far as I'm concerned.

It’s not still masking for the most part. It’s that there is a surge, it’s cold season, and some either have things going on that can make them more susceptible to covid or someone that is medically fragile in their life.

For younger students/families that were not yet fully in to grade school when the elementary kids were doing virtual it’s probably more startling. Mine was in pre-k early pandemic and now in 4th. Masks do not phase them and they understand nuance and language just fine.

My oldest is also in 4th grade, not sure why you're making assumptions about the age of my kid. Parents in our kids' cohort who were subjected to the idiocy of virtual Kindergarten and masked 1st grade but still gaslight regarding the obvious negative externalities of masked teachers make me sad. You are clearly deeply brainwashed.
