Why are Christians insisting the opening ceremony depicted The Last Supper when it really was the Feast of Dyonisus?

The biggest problem I have with the whole fashion show/Dionysus Parody - or whatever parody they wanted to make it about. Why did they ALL have to be LGBTQ/drag queens? The Olympics at its core is all about bringing everyone together - regardless of politics, religion, color, etc....and this should include lifestyle! The Olympic Committee - whether intentional or not - royally and I mean big time screwed up in this regard. If this were a true parody of Dionysus and you wanted to truly be inclusive and appeal to the spirit of the Olympics - unity - then in reality there should have been representatives of all races, all genders (LGBTQ AND non-LGBTQ), participating in the parody. Had there been a woman dressed in period costume, a man wearing a toga, a drag queen, etc. we wouldn't be having this discussion. Also, the humongous gold halo on the center lady's head could have been a bit more understated because my mom said that was what made her think of the Last Supper - the in-your-face huge gold halo.

Not all drag queens are LGBTQ

I know, that's way I used a slash.

In general, the interpretation of a slash (/) in writing can vary depending on the context and the conventions of the specific field or language being used. However, there are some common conventions that can help you determine whether a slash is meant to convey "or" or "and":

"Or" usage:
- In most cases, a slash (/) is used to indicate "or" when presenting a choice or alternative between two or more items.

Then I guess you have no problem with it, it included the people you listed. Yay!

Why is this a political thing? Trump is a known musical theater fan and the campier the better--he was asked about this on Fox and Friends this AM and he said it was "kinda raunchy" but said Melania and Barron liked it. He said the ballroom at Mar-A-Lago was big enough to recreate it and he said he might.

Cool. Cool. Cools.
So our radical evangelical republican Christians are outraged, similarly to radical Muslims?
So these groups are behaving similarly?
Am I understanding that correctly?
American evangelical Christians are philosophically equivalent to fundamentalist Islamic Muslims?
Because they are both reacting to the opening ceremonies in similar fashions.
That’s where we are in the timeline?
What a world.

I'm beginning to think they WANT to be offended.

They want to be victims, then they b**ch when they're treated like victims. There's no winning! They want to skip the oppression and go straight to protected class. Line jumpers.

Ummm....please take a break from DCUM - it's not just American Christians who were offended. You just happen to be on an American Forum limited to the views of the DCUM community who live in America.

I didn't say only American Christians were offended. Again, read.

But the criticism and jokes are only toward the Christians that are upset.

My question is: why?

Because we make fun of gross political parties.

It’s because they both believe Jesus is to be respected unlike the French and the LGBTQ

Why is it easy pickings to pick on Christians and what do you think Christians will do once they realize their religion is under attack by the mainstream? Liberals literally want drama and call for it. It’s like they want to lose elections and get a hard Christian right winger government. For the love of God, leave well enough alone as a progressive.

You’re pushing a boundary when mocking one of the biggest religions on Earth let alone two of them.

What was the reason?

LOL, yeah Muslims have it so easy. They're only threatened by a major political party in the US. Constantly demonized at every turn and if there's a mass killing spree, they have to pray it wasn't a Muslim so they don't ALL get blamed while you get to hear the "mental illness" defense if it's a white Christian (which is most of the time) and only that individual is blamed for it

You really have your head up your own a$$ and it's quite obvious that you've been so pampered as a Christian that a f***ing performance is enough to make you think you're a victim. Tell us about the "War on Christmas," too, and how it's like being r*ped when greeted with "Happy Holidays."

So to respect Jesus, we have to uphold the fantasy of a gay man who painted him?

Liberals sure know how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

See ya here in November. The silent majority will speak.

Anonymous wrote:I didn't see the depiction on opening night but read about the outrage afterwards and it just seems to be escalating. Olympic authorities have said it was a depiction of the Feast of Dyonisus. How is this still a controversy? Do facts not matter at all to these people? At least one Christian pastor seemed to figure out what really happened.

Reverend Benjamin Cremer, based in the US, shared a post on social media which dispelled the allegation that the controversial scene featuring drag queens was mocking Leonardo da Vinci's classic painting and therefore Christianity.

The post reads: 'It was a representation of the event called the Feast of Dionysus. Greek God of festivity and feasting and ritual and theater.'

It seems as if Christians are very invested in feeling persecuted and disrespected these days. Seems like some people are actually just riling up the base.

Sounds like producers trying to be clever and spin. It was very clearly intended to mock Christianity.

Can you tell me where this Blue Guy exists in the Bible? I mean, it's "very clearly intended to mock Christianity" so which book of the Bible talks about the Blue Guy?

It wasn’t just this scene. There were references to Christianity throughout the opening ceremony including a golden calf with worshippers around.

Is the calf about ancient agriculture and sculptures too?

It’s definitely not religious references. Everyone’s all making it up!!

It’s also interesting Christians get bashed when Muslims have also condemned this sad Olympics opening ceremony in large number . We know why your lot doesn’t bash Muslims.

Muslims aren't a political party in the US, Christians are.

Muslims are the biggest minority in France.

Well, so what? WTF has that gotten them but living in ghettos in France? That's the irony of idiot, bigoted Americans who go off about Muslims in Europe like it's the same here. American Muslims tend to have higher than the avg US income and also educations specifically because America (sans MAGAts) actually embraces people who are ambitious, have educations and willing to work hard. Europe is actually far more hateful and provides no opportunity to actually succeed.

Because it’s socialist.

Kamala says America needs to be like them.

And she's still a better option than Donald Trump, convicted rapist.

She is so bad that I am voting, proudly, for the rapist.

And that's why your kids will never confide in you if they're raped. Poor things. At least you get internet points!

Disgusting you’d even say that. Don’t worry. We’ll drain out the swamp in November.

Right now it's all they have. Seriously. Look at this thread. This is the best they can do.
