Hidayat wants SROs to return. It's his main platform point.

Yeah. It's all he talks about.

In a Primary Election, because Maryland uses a closed primary system, you must be a registered Republican or Democrat to vote for that party’s candidates for all offices other than non-partisan Board of Education offices. In the May 14, 2024 primary, voters registered with other political parties and unaffiliated voters can vote only for the nonpartisan Board of Education candidates.

In a November general election, all registered voters may vote for any candidate or ballot issue.

1. Incumbents - Smondrowski, Evans, Harris
2. Apple ballot (teacher's union endorsed) - Zimerman, Stewart, Montoya
3. Rebels: Diaz, Mandel, Mofor

Sorry, couldn't come up with a better name for group 3, but they are all sort of consistent in wanting big change, SROs back in schools, and stuff like that.

So if you like how things are going, vote group 1.

If you like the teacher's union (keep in mind their 2022 apple ballot picks currently sit on the board, but aren't up for election this cycle), vote group 2.

If you think big changes are needed, vote group 3.

Do NOT vote for 1 listed above. Do NOT for the incumbents.

Do NOT vote for 3 listed above. You will regret.

More info about the candidates in 2 listed above should be shared here and elsewhere to get the info out. In the past, have heard neighbors who do not have children in MoCo schools say they choose Apple ballot. Will we be getting more of the same if we choose Apple?

In the current context, Apple Ballot has stopped endorsing incumbents, because teachers are acutely aware that the Central Office is broken. That's why you see them endorsing folks who are new.

So, assuming you are not voting for the Fascist Slate, you might consider Apple Ballot candidates as a starting point.

Of the Apple endorsed candidates, Montoya seems like the most no-nonsense, reasonable person. My only ick about her is her professional background as a cannabis advocate. Yikes.

Her campaign is very lazy and lackluster. I thought her energy on the LWV forum left a lot to be desired as well. She doesn't seem to be energized about running.
