I think public reaction will be to shrug and go about one's day. We have a happily uninformed citizenry who will consider this another thing happening in far off Washington. Meanwhile, my intelligent, college-educated friend will continue to tell me how impressed she is that I know "all this stuff." My job involves foreign policy, so being informed on that front just makes me competent. The rest of the "stuff" I learn by picking up a newspaper and paying attention to what's going on. She could do the same. She certainly has more free time than I do. |
"Empty petroleum reserve false, and US oil production is at record highs under Biden" "At about 350 million barrels, it's at its lowest since 1983. To put what's left into perspective, the US released about 270 million barrels over the last two years to cap oil prices. If the SPR is a revolver, it has a final round left in the chamber — and that's it. The ignorance could not come at a worst time.Oct 17, 2023". The WPost |
The right is concerned about that but that means they’re paranoid, not right. Actually your entire post is so far removed from reality that it’s hard to pick a point to address you on. Trump isn’t saying he’ll prosecute people who have done illegal things, he’s said he’s going to go after his enemies. Once again he’s also encouraging violence against liberals. He’s promising camps. Whatever your right wing propaganda sources are telling you, Biden isn’t doing any of this. I don’t understand how people like you, who were probably good and more or less intelligent people not so long ago, have gotten so snowed and so happily. |
Honey, wake up. That was two months ago and we’re back at the top of oil production again. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/01/business/energy-environment/us-oil-production-record-climate.html |
This. This is what happens in authoritarian states. Most people will continue to have relatively stable lives, while they are frogs in warming water. Marginalized people will suffer. It will be a sad society for those who are paying attention. People will pay less attention over time because they will be powerless and the press will be less free. |
If they wanted to live miserable, authoritarian lives, Republicans could just pack up and go live in some of those places that are un free. Russia naturally comes to mind when discussing Republicans, of course; maybe they could just go there instead of wrecking our country. |
You're saying that I should be prepared to be hauled off by the Biden Administration? If that is the case, I think you're proving my point, mate. |

But most authoritarian states are not as diverse as the US and have 335 million people. Easy to control a place like Hungary. |
It might not be diverse but China is huge and very controlled. It can be done. With just a few weeks to plan Trump nearly stopped a joint session of Congress. They’ve been planning how to do it better for nearly 3 years already. |
China has a very different culture. There would be massive unrest in the US, or at the least something like the troubles in Northern Ireland. Do you really think people will lay day and roll over after 235 years of a system of government? |
