I think public reaction will be to shrug and go about one's day. We have a happily uninformed citizenry who will consider this another thing happening in far off Washington. Meanwhile, my intelligent, college-educated friend will continue to tell me how impressed she is that I know "all this stuff." My job involves foreign policy, so being informed on that front just makes me competent. The rest of the "stuff" I learn by picking up a newspaper and paying attention to what's going on. She could do the same. She certainly has more free time than I do.

Trump isn’t saying he’ll prosecute people who have done illegal things, he’s said he’s going to go after his enemies. Once again he’s also encouraging violence against liberals. If they wanted to live miserable, authoritarian lives, Republicans could just pack up and go live in some of those places that are un free. Russia naturally comes to mind when discussing Republicans, of course; maybe they could just go there instead of wrecking our country.
