Yes. Seriously. The non-W people are so bitter that they are enjoying the fact that someone brought a gun to a W school. How pathetic and sad. I do feel for them because anyone that reacts that way is obviously in pain and projecting that pain onto others. As for the teen, we need to know more. How are parents supposed to send their kids to WJ today without knowing what the intent was and if it was an isolated incident?

No, you don't.

-parent who sent their kid to Clarksburg HS on February 16, 2018, without knowing what the intent was and if it was an isolated incident

You are sadly mistaken. You doing it and nothing happening does not prove your point. You are just wrong. Not to mention, the climate is a little different right now than it was in 2018, but thanks for your useless input.

The climate is a little different now than it was in 2018, the day after the Parkland shooting? Seriously?

Yes. I agree. Worries of WWIII are a little different.

When there's a kid with a gun in a high school, it's reasonable to worry about a school shooting. It is not reasonable, in my opinion, to worry that this might be the beginning of WWIII.

What a POS you must be to hear this news and attempt an " I told you I was right"
Wow.
Wj has over three thousands students so it is more likely to happen there than other places. .

I am impressed the student who saw it showed leadership and responsibility and reported it. I can think of a few schools where that part wouldn't have happened.

Will add to this so glad I put my daughter who is zoned for WJ into an all girls school where guns will never likely be an issue.

I have news for you about girls.

The majority of school shootings happen in large public schools by males. This is a fact.

Yes, and some don't. That is also a fact.

The majority of breast cancer cases occur in women, but men also get breast cancer. If you're a man who gets breast cancer, it's irrelevant that the majority of breast cancer cases occur in women.

You don't understand risk management.

I understand that risk management is not risk elimination.

Never said it was eliminated. Risk is rarely eliminated. But it can be managed, and our family is doing what is best for our daughter in an all girls school because we can afford it. Plus she is getting an amazing education in small classes. Win win.

If it isn't a W school, should we call it Alter Johnson? What do we do with the W then? That is the big question here.

We could call it Johnson. Like Churchill. The real W schools are Whitman, Wootton, Wheaton, and Watkins Mill.

I think you have no idea of what the concept of "W schools" is if you think Churchill is not a W school but Wheaton and Watkins Mill are....

What do we tell our kids to do? Serious question. What do I tell my kid to do if another student pulls out a gun in the hallway.
dial 911, if they have a phone. Otherwise, run out of the building.

Thats what they said about the guy who assaulted the wj student after the football game. But he wasn't charged as an adult.
discriminatory prosecution?

Run away immediately.

Then call the police.

Thanks.

How about a bomb threat? Today, some of the kids at Rockville were herded to the stadium for the bomb threat. Should I tell my kid to just leave the premises if there is a bomb threat as some kids did?
yes.

I told my my Blair kids to leave yesterday. Police/school staff wouldn’t allow it unless they were being picked up by a parent/guardian. My kids walk to Blair and we both work in the office full time. So they were stuck there.

I am glad no one was hurt.

I agree with PPs who are calling out the snobby W parents on here.

If you aren't a snobby W parent, you have no reason to get huffy. If you are, you should take a step back and reconsider your snobbery. This gun BS is everywhere now. How about you focus on helping with that instead of sitting back and criticizing other schools all the time.

Here’s the thing. I’m a “w parent”. I’m not snobby, I work very very hard to send my kids to WJ but I recognize that I’m fortunate to do so. I’m huffy because our kids were in danger today and there are a bunch of a$$hole$ on here making this a w school vs other schools thing.
Start your own gd thread and let the adults discuss the matter at hand

DP but W parents do that all the times.
Had that been a non-W school, W parents would be here calling the school all kind of names, ganglandia, crime-infested etc...
So cry me a river.

Exactly. They’re constantly putting our schools down for having high FARMS rates, lower test scores, high rates of Hispanic students, etc.

Maybe now they can realize that the W schools aren’t an impenetrable palace of perfection and join the rest of us in the business of improving MCPS, instead of acting like it’s somebody else’s problem.

I think you should see about therapy and stop projecting your insecurities on others. It is no way to live life. Seriously.

W parents are such gaslighters.

Maybe you all should try a different school system so we don't have to see your comments on this thread

Sucks to be bashed, doesn’t it?

Not as much as it sucks to not be at a W school so enjoy. Jealousy is not a pretty color on you. I'd change the look.

Since self awareness is not your strong suit, I’m sure you don’t see the irony of your post.

I think it is hysterical that you all can't figure out when you are being trolled. Take a deep breath, a sip of coffee, and put your phones down.

And I think it’s hysterical that you call it trolling when it comes from your side and is abhorrent behavior.

It seems that the "non-w" people (this sounds so ridiculous...has this been going on here for a long time??) are the ones that think there are sides. Please grow up.

Yes, at least 50 years. How long have you lived in Montgomery County?

30 years

"W schools" is a concept? What is the concept of "W schools"?

Read this thread: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/60/1159952.page

The "W schools" are the supposed "elite" schools within MCPS. Low FARMs, high test scores, highly desirable college outcomes, strong parent community support, etc. They are clustered around Bethesda/Potomac/Rockville. But I'm sure you know that are just feigning ignorance.

But the thread I liked you to, where people debate if WJ is the lower rung equivalent to Cornell's position within the Ivy League, within the W school subset.

Does anybody have any insight on why Nassir had a gun and who he planned on using it against?
