They don't really care about protecting children.

Sounds to me that the teacher was chomping at the bit to test the system.
And, once again, instructional time is too precious to waste it on a movie. Here ends my TED talk.

Only lousy teachers without imagination are unable to pull a lesson out of a cultural product their students just consumed.

+ 1 million

Even young students can talk about storylines and plot elements. Even young students can compare and contrast based on a movie (just like they do with books). At the most basic level, they can write summaries and practice writing. At higher levels they can critique everything from settings to the script to the way ideas are portrayed. If teachers were fired for showing a movie, there would be no teachers anywhere. And yes, movies can be shown for entertainment, just like we have field day and picnic day at the end of the year. Learning should be fun too. Schools shouldn't be a grind all the time. Lots of businesses have picnics and team outing days. Do you know why?

Exactly.

You want to keep kids away from anything "sexual explicit"? Ban child beauty pageants. Which of you conservatives on this thread would agree to that?

I think Dems need to call out GOP hypocrisy and start introducing legislation to ban beauty pageants for anyone under 18.

That and marriage under the age of 18. Utter insanity in red states that would allow children to marry.

I’m good with not allowing beauty pageants in schools.

Not good enough. You must agree to ban them all together as being harmful to children by foisting sexual content on them.

The issue we are dealing with here is within local government. If parents want to bring their kids to drag shows, let them.

If red states really wanted to protect.the child they would pass:
18 as the minimum age to get married.
16 is the absolute minimum age to work.
Free lunches through high school for anyone who wants them.

They just want to get votes from brain dead evangelicals and save money for themselves, they don't really care about children.
