And there are other award winning teachers who have shown a movie on occasion. Since when are you the supreme dictator who decided you speak for all teachers? You don't. |
Are you a protected union teacher? I can assure you that in my school district showing movies is not allowed, unless instructional and indicated on lesson plans. |
Sounds to me that the teacher was chomping at the bit to test the system. And, once again, instructional time is too precious to waste it on a movie. Here ends my TED talk. |
If you want to debate the merits of showing kids a movie after end of year standardized testing, take it to one of the educational forums. It's really irrelevant to this thread. |
This is clearly true. Otherwise this thread would not exist. Good teachers know what is appropriate. Movies aren't. |
No matter. It was an appropriately rated movie and didn't violate Florida law so this entire stupid complaint *should* go nowhere if Florida actually follows their own law as written. |
Again, take that concern to an educational forum. This thread is not about whether a movie should be shown in school ever. You are deflecting. |
Ok, Umbridge. Any other educational decrees while you're at it? |
It’s the end of the term after standardized tests. It was a reward/break for the students. Stop the superteacher virtue signaling. |
Um film studies is a thing. Anything can be a topic of study and elicit critical thinking. Media literacy is important for kids to learn. There is nothing inherently bad about watching a film. You can get kids to discuss all sorts of things about what they watched, discuss how it was made, analyze it both for content and for form and also character development. So many ways to encourage students to think critically about their media consumption. Good teachers know they can always find teachable moments. |
There was no instructional time or lesson being taught, because students were taking their standardized tests. This movie was shown to students who completed their tests and had all parents sign a permission slip. It's very clear that the school board member is the one who wanted to test the system. Perhaps teaching became a challenge for you because of your poor reading comprehension skills? |
b Only lousy teachers without imagination are unable to pull a lesson out of a cultural product their students just consumed. |
Summer break is break enough!! |
You get an F because you ignored the topic of the assignment. |
| The teachers harping against showing a movie are disappointingly dense, insisting on lecturing about their imaginary personal grievance rather than showing any concern about the topic of the thread, a police state action targeting a teacher over one bigot’s ridiculous complaint. |
