Maybe your kid did, but the majority of kids did not. And a ‘near perfect’ score on MCAP? I’m pretty sure you are a troll. |
My kid paid attention during the pandemic and actually shows up to class. Meanwhile your kids are passed out in the bathroom or vaping and you wonder why they are doing poorly. |
Most of these people ignore the county's large demographic shift over the past few decades that has impacted these standardized test scores. The same kid today can do as well or better than that kid would do 20-30 years ago. The same opportunities exist. The thing is the people enjoy complaining because they feel entitled. |
Or, let's look at the shift as being the curriculum changes, which hasn't been positive for many kids. They can pull out the test scores/demographics to compare that easily enough. |
If your kids are in-person now you shouldn't be so arrogant. You don't really actually know if they are going to class or just pretending. |
Oh, I get it. As long as the White kids are doing well, everything is fine. The ‘demographic changes’ has shown an increase in the number of Latinx kids. These changes have negatively impacted test scores. Sounds like you are saying it doesn’t matter as long as White rich kids continue to do well. |
Not at all. Some kids are more interested in academics than others. You can't make people study or take school seriously. If they have different goals or family values, that's kind of up to them. |
Okay, while your kid watches TikTok videos during class mine doesn't have a phone and that is another reason why your child does poorly. |
That would be a good start, but also a lot of the resources today go to closing the achievment gap which is a function of these demographic shifts. |

The antiracist action plan was released. It's a bunch of words that don't paint a clear picture of what will change, but they're trying to say the SIPs will be the main way schools push this forward. Oh, and more training. YAY!

Lots of fluff. All talk, no action. No accountability for the students (and parents) causing the worst issues. |
|
Does this mean they are getting rid of compacted to make sure that all kids receive the same curriculum?:
A change to the elementary mathematics course structure and grouping practices that support all students’ developing a solid mathematics foundation, with increased rigor through heterogeneous grouping (Special Education, Emergent Multilingual Learners, and Focus Group Students) |
I have no idea. And that's the problem with MCPS and how it communicates. They're as clear as mud and they'll spend an insane amount of time, energy and resources saying things in a way that no one knows what the hell they actually mean. |
Yes, it means they're going to lower the bar even more so they can claim to have closed the gap. |

Even better: Domain 6 - Equity of Access:
updated enrollment criteria for accelerated programming that accounts for racial proportionality and identifies students who can be successful in advanced coursework with appropriate academic supports |
