Dumb "W" school asking kids to wear their newly accepted College Shirts on May 1st

Anonymous
IMO, the problem isn't kids wearing the shirts from the college.. it's the turd who made the snarky comment about OP's kid going to UMD.

That's Whitman for ya. Some of those kids and parents make horrible comments about people from "lesser" schools.

You see people on here making comments like all non W schools are bad, basically ganglandia. Snooty parents breed snooty kids. Whitman parents must be so proud of their snooty kids.

Heck, when I graduated from a Fairfax Co. public school ages ago we did the same thing. Everyone wore the tshirt of where they were accepted and photos were taken. Imagine doing that in the 90s when not everyone went to college!

Not everyone goes to college now too.

OP you are the problem with society. C

Life isn't fair.

Teach your kid a lesson here. Who cares where they go. Anyone can be successful regardless of where they go to college, or if they even go to college. Shelter your kids from the reality of world is the one thing that will hold you back.

If your kids can't take it, then you did something wrong.

It's hilarious you don't see the irony here...

I guess but it's still all true.

HHH HS West, class of '89. Don't remember doing anything like this on Long Island.

We did it at North Babylon HS. Class of '92. Go Bulldogs! It was celebratory and fun. And I went to a no-name college.

There is 0.0 chance any kid from Whitman mocked a UMD sweatshirt or admission. People are gullible here and adore their stereotypes.

Anonymous wrote:Wow OP the US is imploding and this is what you focus on?

Schools all over the country have done this since before 1980

I did it in Florida in 1976

+1

Just because "that's the way we've always done it" doesn't make it right. Time to change traditions

All kids don't do all things that adults plan. Some don't wear pajamas on pajama day, or the right color on spirit day.

Do you really think that's true? Really?

Dumb place sent out a notification for kids to wear their college sweatshirt to school on May 1st.

What is this? So kids can brag more about the swanky, expensive colleges they got into and make others feel badly who were waitlisted or had to take second choice? Yuck. I know I know - we bought here thinking it was a "good" School.. NO! A school of pushy, rude parents who only look out for number one. Themselves and their kids. It's awful.

What about a kid who may have to go to Montgomery College? What if someone isn't going to college? What if someone comes from low income housing and cannot afford college? What if What if What if?? Not bad in and of itself but geez. My kid is likely going to UMD and has already received a number of snarky comments. On waitlist that won't get off of while kid x, y, z parades in and out with a Michigan sweatshirt daily.

Why does this idiot school allow this? What is wrong with these people? Isn't the instagram they are exposed to daily bad enough???

Stop the madness. It's cruel to some of these kids who are not thrilled with college decision.

You reap what you sew...

What did the OP sew?

Apparently not a college sweatshirt.

I went to a prep school filled with kids obsessed with going to Ivy and Ivy+ colleges. Yes, kids wore hoodies from their colleges. No, the school never sent out anything encouraging it.

So no — it’s not all schools.

What I’ve literally never heard of it and I’m from super fancy upper crusty-ness. It’s totally gauche to brag about where you are going to go school. Sweatshirts are for weekend chores after you’ve graduated.

And screw anyone who talks down yo MC students. As a college professor, I promise you the students who transfer
from CCs are the hardest working and most insightful. And they know the value of their education.

DS hasn’t committed yet because school he wants to go to, we can’t afford. And he knows that where he ends up will be considered “below average” by classmates. Why are people so anti UMD?

You don’t need to put below average in quotes.

It's a good time to teach your kid that they have a choice to participate. They also have a choice to celebrate themself and others or be pissed and spiteful that people do better than them. Which would you wish your child to do?
