Have you read the amendment? It's even worse (see the reference to "COVID-10"). The justification included with the new paragraph suggests that DCPS wasn't consulted until after the original legislation was drafted. |
Here's the link to the council's page with the legislation and the two amendments: https://dccouncil.us/week-10-4-10-8-2021/ Scroll down to or search for "Protecting our children..." |
and isn't Robert White going to try to run against Bowser? I'm not Bowser booster, but....uh....she's got my vote over him. |
How come when you write the council and ask them to change things and their response is “it will be fine” that’s an issue, but the 1500+ people who petitioned for a virtual option are crazy lunatics who hate children |
Wait, so your argument is that if we just had virtual for all we wouldn't have created a loophole for child neglect? Nice. Maybe if the entitled people who want bespoke public school shouldn't have demanded such a thing. Yes, I am asking them to change something that leads to child neglect, and they are saying "nah don't worry about it." I was fine, and I think most people were fine, with expanded virtual to kids in families with medical needs. Also, the "virtual option for all" had issues and you never well know that, particularly when it was "virtual at every school." |
| plus you can always homeschool. |
| Those of you writing the council need to know that they're acting how they're acting because they have heard from so many MORE of us whose children are in unsafe schools, taking inadequate COVID precautions, and using the threat of CPS to coerce silence families who are frightened to send their children. I'm truly repulsed by those of you who are shouting "privilege" at us even as you send your kids off to your very safe charter or safe public. Its not even in this city, it's not even close, and you need to check YOUR privilege. POC are carrying the brunt of this illness and white people should stop trying to talk for them and stop trying to suggest that a family who is keeping their child home in fear is somehow not equipped to make that decision, and need YOU to make the decision for them. That's a terrible thing to do to people who can and are speaking for themselves. |
LOL. If you don't send your kid to school and don't apply to homeschool, CPS should come to your house. If you are worried, you can HOMESCHOOL. Anyone can apply to HOMESCHOOL. CPS wouldn't come to anyone's door about school absences if they just HOMESCHOOLED. But no, the people using this loophole aren't doing that, are they? You know very well you are being disingenuous, and are weaponizing equity for your personal benefit. |
+1 the DCUM echo chamber isn’t real (and frankly is probably filled with folks who don’t even live in the district. |
I know it's hard to come to grips with the fact that you created legal child abuse. But you did, Jan. It's real. |
| This tweet says 92 families have been referred to CFS for “educational neglect.” https://twitter.com/perrystein/status/1446499699557429258?s=21 |
Spoken like someone who has no idea what child abuse really is. There’s the real privilege. |
bullsh*t. I know how this goes from the other side. There are always a contingent of crazies who act like they speak for “all the parents” or “all the neighbors.” it is the JOB of elected representatives to find out what is actually going on and take action that is best overall, not action that panders to a pressure group with extra time and resources. It was absolutely malpractice for the council to pass this crappy, crappy bill. however I will note that it did only a tiny fraction of what you were asking for so don’t get too big for your britches. the real problem is that in stupidly trying to mollify you, they may have created a really bad unintended consequence. |
I just can’t say how disgusted I am that you are STILL perpetuating the lie that school is unsafe. You are victimizing them for your own gain. |
