I dropped off my DD to preschool yesterday and saw a mom walk in with pajamas, no makeup and hair bunched up in a clip. I can see no makeup but pajamas? The other half of me is like wow, that would save me some time in the morning..
Regarding makeup, I don't put on foundation (I really should) but eyeliner and lip stick is my daily wear face. |
SAHM here and I do put on makeup every day. It makes me feel and look more awake and human. I've never gone anywhere outside the house in pajamas. Yoga pants, yes.
But - you don't know what that mom had going on that day. Maybe she was having the morning from hell - sick kid, sick mom, etc. One thing motherhood has taught me is that you really, really don't know what other people are going through. Because I've had rough crappy days and realized no one else has any idea what is going on with me. Btw - how do you know she was a SAHM? |
| Never would I show up in pajamas. I don't generally wear makeup, lucky enough still not to need it really, maybe just a little blush and mascara. I am usually on the way to the gym when I drop off at preschool so I have on workout clothes. |
| I am a working mom and I never wear makeup. Not everyone likes to wear makeup! |

I didn't wear makeup when I worked-- maybe a touch of lip gloss but nothing else-- and we had no dress code, so basically I get to wear the same clothes and level of makeup as a SAHM that I did working full-time.
However, I also wear semi-normal clothes as pajamas so if you ever see me dressed like I might be on my way to or coming from a yoga class, it probably means we had a rough night.

Good point on not assuming she is SAHM...I work out of my home 3 days a week and in office twice. A few other parents thought I was SAHM--inviting me to things during the day. These days alot of people do telecommute.
I would drop off no makeup but always was fully dressed even it it was just jeans, knit shirt and flats. I won't go anywhere in pajamas! Now that my son rides the school bus, there are some moms that wear workout clothes, so work clothes, and one does wear pajamas. I don't think much about any of it unless they had on fuzzy slippers or something. |
| I would never go anywhere in pajamas and no makeup. If I was deathly ill and had to drop my DC off like that, I wouldn't go in the building. Maybe it's vanity, maybe it's because I'm from the south and we're all raised this way, but I don't go a day without fixing my hair and makeup and wearing a decent outfit. |
| I work out of the home and never wear makeup, my work clothes are scrubs which look much like pajamas! |
I never wear makeup - not while I was working and not now that I'm a SAHM. I do get dressed in regular clothes (not yoga pants, which are just glorified sweatpants, IMHO). But if someone wore pjs for drop-off, I would probably not think about it, assuming the morning was proving to be a rough ride.

I admit that I sometimes have on pajamas, or jeans and a pajama top under my coat when I drop off DS at elementary school, but I don't have to get out of the car for that. If I had to get out of the car I would change into workout clothes or real clothes and a decent ponytail. As much as I like to be showered, etc by then, I also have a toddler and a baby who is a CRAPPY sleeper so some days I just cannot wake up in time to get myself ready before I get everyone else ready.
My DD's preschool starts an hour later so I can squeeze in the shower before I drop her off. I only wear makeup half the time, my skin is pretty good so some days it's just lip gloss and moisturizer. |

I work outside the house, but don't wear makeup. But one day I dropped one of my kids off at school wearing pajamas. Two of the other kids were very sick, my husband was sick. I had been up all night taking care of everyone...seriously, all night, zero sleep. I was so exhausted I didn't notice I was still wearing pj's until I was in the car, and I thought "screw it" and dropped her off while wearing pajamas anyway.
If it's just once, please don't judge her, she might just be having a terrible terrible day. |
Seconded. The concept of a "daily wear face" mentioned above makes me itchy just thinking about it! As for pajamas, what are we talking? A nightgown or boxers and ratty shirt I would find inappropriate, but if you just mean lounge-style pants, eh, whatever. |
| I have never wear make up. I don't go anywhere with Pajamas either but I don't think any less of people wearing them either. |
Why is it a "good point" on not assuming she's a SAHM. Why would it make any difference, one way or another? |
| I do sometimes if my toddler is sick, like today. I had on loungy type PJ's with a sweatshirt thrown on top. We have a carpool lane though so I don't need to get out of the car. If I did need to get out of the car I would have on jeans, yoga pants and some makeup for sure (I don't have great skin)! |
