VENT: We need ice cream truck & lawn mowing laws

Anonymous
What's the deal with the damn ice cream trucks coming through MoCo neighborhoods three times a day? The have the loudest music, plus these annoying buzzers and bells. As soon as the buzzer rings, it wakes up the baby. My neighbors have stopped one truck and told him to stop coming here. We all have infants and toddlers.

My lazy neighbor has been mowing and trimming his lawn since 11 a.m. It's 2:50 p.m. now. He's still not finished. Our lots are smaller than one-quarter acre!!! He does a couple rows, then sits down and drinks beer. He's in his 40s. Baby can't sleep with it going.

I can pick up sticks, mow the lawn AND trim AND pull weeds in less than 90 minutes.

The world doesn't revolve around your sleeping baby.

Agreed. Your baby needs silence to sleep? Most don't.
Your neighbor can do whatever he wants. Maybe you should leave the house mid-day.

You want a law that precludes people from doing yard work in the middle of the afternoon? You're nuts, lady.

Be happy he's not starting at 5 am! If your baby is that sensitive to noise then perhaps you should consider white noise. And here I thought your vent was going to be about the fact there are SO ice cream trucks that have no wording on them - they look like "catch a kid" pedofile vans. And all those folks offering yard services that don't do a good job. That is what you should be worrying about.

You absolutely need to invest in white noise of some sort. If you don't want a special machine, then plug in a radio and put it on a static channel.

You're not serious, lady.

Take your baby to a bowling alley at naptime. Eventually it will sleep through anything.

Please to take to reading STFU parents. Maybe you will recognize how annoying you are. The world does not stop because you have a baby.

You can't be serious.

But if you are, you really need to stop for a moment and think about things. The world does not revolve around you or your child...

There will be many things in life that are annoying. Get over it now or you'll end up venting on DCUM about 50 times/day.

As many other PPs have said, white noise is your friend. And while nobody enjoys hearing the sound of a lawn mower, I'd much rather hear one in the middle of the day than at 6 am on a weekend.
