| So move to a higher end neighborhood with bigger lots that's not frequented by trashy icy novelty peddlers. |
Good plan. But wait - part of the allure of those higher end homes with bigger lots is the large lawn! Drat - back to the drawing board. |
In a high end neighborhood, your neighbors won't bother mowing themselves, they will outsource this task to a crew of guys who get the job done in 8 minutes (hardly enough time for you to work yourself into an unmedicated tizz about the noise). Where do you live anyway that has ice cream trucks and people who do their own mowing? Silver Spring? Sounds dreadful, glad I can afford Potomac. |
| Just wondering what OP thinks the laws should say. |
|
OP, I totally get why the lawn mowing thing would be so annoying. Mowers are loud, and mowing that lasts on-and-off for almost 4 hours is a bit much. See if others are bothered by it, and then leave an anonymous note on his door saying that several of you request that he please try to reduce the number of hours he spends mowing the lawn.
Not sure why so many PPs have such antagonistic responses. Especially since your subject line indicates a "vent," but for your own sake you might try some of the noise management suggestions. Good luck! At least in winter there will be no ice cream trucks.

|
OP, really these are not a big deal - I thought you were going to post that a neighbor was mowing his lawn at 6am on a Saturday!?!
Btw, I live in Bethesda and we have lots of ice cream trucks and people who mow their own lawns ... |
Ah, the anonymous note, the passive-aggressive refuge of soccer moms everywhere. And I'm told people in the suburbs are so much more civilized than in the city. Sorry, not buying it. |
There are noise ordinances and he is mowing his lawn within the times allowed. Also, Ice cream drivers are just making a living and he has a right to do so. Close your windows for the Ice cream vendors and offer to mow the neighbor's lawn. Newsflash: the world does not revolve around you, never has and never will. Good For your neighbor!!! |
I live in silver spring and almost everyone on my street has a lawn service, and yep, it's done in 8 minutes. Oh yeah, and I chase down our ice cream man cause I love ice cream, especially when it's delivered to me |
| WTH do you live that the ice cream man comes 3x a day? That jerk won't even drive down my stinking street! |
| Wow! Rarely does one see such universal agreement on DCUM. That should tell you something OP. |
Yes. I'm not suprised people in Bethesda have to do their own mowing--it's the land of people who make $150k and buy $1M 1960s split levels with the original green shag carpeting. House poor. |
| OP, I hear you. I've been wanting the margarita truck to make apass through my neighborhood too and all I get is that ice cream guy. |
| Move to Compton and get some real problems. |
AU Park resident here. That is hardly low end. The same blaring ice cream truck follows me to my kid's ES after school, to my other kid's MS after school, to our soccer games in the pouring rain on weekend at the Palisades and to the front of my house in AU Park during the middle of dinner time (6:00PM). It is Good Humor HARASSMENT. It is the same driver at all of these places. The guy is like THE HOUND OF THE GOOD HUMOUR TRUCK. So sick of it. The "Turkey in the Straw" at 100 db 3-4 times a day is too mucking fuch. |
