Will FCPS show Obama's back to school speech? If so, what grades will be made to watch it? TIA!

Oh, no - he might tell your kids to stay in school and study hard. Damn socialist.

I made sure my child got to see the president's speeches on education and doing well in school. It will be on the White House website. A copy of today's speech has already been released.

My kids get enough of speeches from me.

My child's school will be showing the speech tomorrow. You may "opt out" by contacting the teacher.

Nobody is being "made" to watch anything. Schools have the choice to show the speech. Parents have the choice to have their kids watch it with the class, or go to the library and read a book. Read the speech. Nothing horrible there. It won't kill your kids to show respect for the office of President and maybe even learn something.

I got this email today. My daughter is going to be THRILLED - she's a huge fan.

It should be the other way around.
Parents should sign up if they want their kids to watch it during school hours.
Those kids then should be pulled out, and go to a library or something to watch it.

Would you say the same thing if the President was Ronald Reagan? Serious question.

Yes. Why do you ask?
I'm politically neutral if that's what you are asking.
Bipartisanship is too black or white to me.

Yes, that's what I was wondering. Thanks for answering. I hear a lot of people, in general, criticize *this* president. And I was wondering if people aren't wanting their kids to hear the speech because it's coming from Obama or if they are against having their kids hear this type of speech from *any* president. The first one bothers me. The second one does not.

There were a lot of people who didn't like Bush Jr. I won't be surprised by a lot of people criticizing Obama.
Either case doesn't bother me.

However it sounds too much if parents selectively want or not want their elementary school kids to hear speech from whatever president intended for young kids.

Schools provide 'opt out' option I guess to be 'appropriate'.
I just think 'sigh up' option should be more 'appropriate'.
