Big GDS news

She sleeps with it under her pillow.

Thanks for the link. I can see why you didn't link to it, it doesn't say what you claim it does.

Just says one developer pursued the label for a controversial project. No criteria, either.

Chancellor's row, which I think is the project they're discussing is lovely, a friend bought there, who would probably have moved to Maryland otherwise.

I am beginning to think you aren't a liar, you really see conspiracies everywhere. That's sad.

It's nobody's fault but yours if you're too dumb to read between the lines.

Ward 3 Vision and Greater Greater Washington are basically mouthpieces for big development interests.

I assume we'll get the proof of this .

You might want to check the July/August 2008 edition of Building in Maryland and Washington, DC, a publication of The Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (available on-line). That issue includes a profile of the Smart Growth Alliance, and according to the M-NCBIA, the Smart Growth Alliance was founded by a partner of Holland & Knight (one of the major land use law practices in DC). The Holland & Knight partner was made the first director. According to the article, they partnered with groups like the Coalition for Smarter Growth (Ward 3 Vision’s partner) to advance the main purpose of the organization: to secure approvals for projects that had substantial increases in density and faced neighborhood opposition. One of their first projects was to set up an awards program, which could be used by the developers in zoning hearings. The only objective criteria for the award was that the project was somewhere near transit, had a substantial increase in density and faced credible opposition. The groups like Coalition for Smarter Growth were frequently tapped to testify at the zoning hearing that the project won a Smart Growth Alliance award.

In addition, the book NIMBY Wars, a book of case studies published by a consulting firm, includes a description of how the consulting strategist used the local “smart growth” group, Ward 3 Vision, to attempt to demonstrate support for a project which they recognized was opposed by local residents.

Thanks for sharing the link to the article. I read it very differently than how you characterized it, but it gave me a better understanding of Smart Growth and its roots in Maryland.

"She sleeps with..." sure got everyone's attention (in the context of this project), but we thought you were referring to something else!

Oh good, we're back to slut shaming. Who'll volunteer to to insinuate something anti-semitic?

There's already been slut shaming in this thread?

More like corrupt than slutty.

I had forgotten that women in public office had to cut their hair and forswear the company of men forever and always.

Who are you even talking about?

zoning review of another school's project in which contacts moved from the simply 'ex parte' to 'in flagrante.'

Yeah, women, they just get so confused when handsome wealthy men are around.

I hope Marcie Cohen sees what you're writing about her.

The GDS school head has an op-ed in the Northwest Current. Looks like GDS has filed for its zoning approvals. They seem confident about getting them.
