Metropolitan DC Local Politics
Evans had his issues but he listened to his constituents and they were apoplectic about the DDOT fiasco on Wisconsin Ave. Fortunately all they had to do was tear out some plastic pylons and repaint the road. Connecticut will be much harder to undo. Maybe that’s why DDOT and the bike lobby are trying to rush it through before more people fully understand it and oppose it? |
| Evans had a vested interest given his twice daily commute to Maret. The problem with that plan was not the plan, but that the city was redoing 37th Street at the same time, so there was more vehiclular traffic on Wisconsin. If they had waited another three weeks, 37th would have been open and the whole thing would have been fine. |
Google is your friend, but no, it T's at the Observatory/Mass Ave. Seriously, look at a map. |
When you say "concept c" you are literally calling it what it is, a concept. When you say "needs to be thought out better" - that is what is happening now, there bis a block by block analysis, looking at the retail, the driveways, the bus stops, everything, and fine tuning, with ANC and public input. The revised plans should be available in 2023. |
You keep repeating this false claim. WABA received public money for bike education particularly in our public schools. WABA receives private and foundation money for "lobbyiing" There are tight controls and reporting on both. It would be very illegal for them to comingle those funds. Their filings are public, so you can look to see how they spend their money and assure that they are complying with the law. Or...you could keep spouting these lies in a Trumpian manner. |
You're right. It's only 25% that gets replaced by bicycles. The other 75% gets diverted onto neighborhood streets. |
Lol We need less white people! Add bike lanes Um, bike lanes primarily attract white people. That's racist! |
| I was up and down Connecticut today and noticed something. The entire road is sloped in order to let rain run off. The slope is especially prominent by the curbs. All of that will have to get flattened and graded to put in the bike lanes. Time to add drainage and icing to the multitude of reasons why this a bad idea. |
What behavior? |
Is this a real comment because it’s funny. |
First off, the sole-source arrangement is where the corruption is. If DDOT was doing anything serious or important, it should have been competitively bid. Secondly, you’re lying. The DDOT $$$$$ is supposedly to pay WABA to scout locations for bike racks. No joke. It is not a serious grant. Furthermore, only you care about these distinctions with little difference. DDOT $$$$ helps to boost WABA profile which helps its lobbying. |
It’s funny because its true. |
Nope. The problem was that DDOT (very, very purposely) did its studies of Wisconsin's traffic in early August, when traffic is the lightest it is all year. So they came to the fraudulent conclusion that Wisconsin could handle the traffic if lanes were taken away. The changes were made based on faulty data, Wisconsin became a parking lot, drivers began using Glover Park as a high-speed cut-though and it became abundantly clear that the plan was a disaster. So it was changed back. The changes coming to Connecticut will be much more costly to undo. |
What you are describing is called crowning. Every road in DC has this. |
And how will stormwater runoff be accommodated with protected bike lanes? |
