A friend just gave me a recipe that calls for garam masala. Where would I buy this? I'm in Bethesda near the DC border.
Thank you! |
| International markets usually carry it. Even Shopper's on New Hampshire may have it--they have a lot of international foods. |
| Any Indian store. Google halal or Indian store in your areA and you will find something near you. |
| Most supermarkets will have it, but probably cheaper at an ethnic or natural grocery store. |
| Better to make your own. |
| Wegman's |
| Whole Foods |
| Friendship Heights Whole Foods definitely has it. |
|
OP here - got it! Had no idea it was so readily available. Thank you!
PP who said better to make your own: recipe please!
|
| In addition to the other recs, you can get it at Cost Plus World Market and Trader Joes. Very cheaply too. |
Not the PP, but an Indian who loves to cook. I use the following recipe: 1 tsp whole black pepper 1 tsp whole cloves 1 tsp whole black cardamom seeds ½ tsp whole green cardamom seeds 2 inch piece of cinnamon (broken into smaller pieces) Roast the above whole spices in a dry pan on slow heat until you can smell a nice aroma. Do not burn the spices (heat should be low). Let the spices cool down. Grind the spices in a coffee grinder to form a very fine powder and store it in an airtight glass jar. |
