Our son is 3 months old. We have not had to buy any clothes for him yet because we got so many gifts and hand-me-downs. In the summer we usually just dressed in a onesie, but now that it's colder he needs long sleeves and pants. We have a bunch of one-piece things that have long sleeves and legs with footies at the bottom. Some of them snap up the front, some pull over the head and just snap in the crotch/legs. I was thinking these were PJs, but I have seen some babies outside the house wearing things like that.
So, are these PJs or daytime clothes? I'm not sure why I'm worried about this, but for whatever reason I feel dumb not knowing whether I'm bringing my kid all over DC dressed in PJs. Thanks! |
| I don't think it matters on a baby that young. I think I used them during the day and at night for a long time until I discovered how cute Robeez were on my baby's feet. Then, I only used them as PJs. |
It doesn't matter. Whatever makes diaper change easier I hated pants rolling up at that age so we only used the one pieces until dc was sitting up and crawling... Definitely PJs once DC was pulling up to stand. Those things are slippery

At that age, DS wore them day and night. Some of the brands call them "sleep and plays," which I think is a good description. Around 6-9 mos we transitioned to footless rompers for daytime, or onesies with pants.
For a young baby, I find footies so much easier to deal with than shirts and pants and socks. My baby was rolling on the floor from a pretty early age and footies meant he was always fully covered and warm. Plus, they're adorable. I like babies dressed like babies. |
| We only used them as PJs. When DS was really little and we were home all day, sometimes I'd use them. But I think it's odd to see older babies in footie onesies outside the house. |
| I tend to only use them at PJs even as young as newborn, but I don't think it matters. |

| We used them all the time at that age. I think we started using outfits more around 4-5 mo. |
| i have the same issue. DS is 5 months and i feel weird bringing him to daycare even though we have a million of them and they're cute. i can't put my finger on why this feels weird, but for now he only wears them at night and wears "outfits" (including one piece rompers, but not with feet) during the day. |
that should say 'bringing him to daycare IN THEM' it's early

They're both PJs and an outfit all in one...and at just a few months old, all clothes more or less double as PJs since babies fall asleep all day long. The footie ones are particularly handy since you don't have to keep popping socks on them.

This! I have the same issue taking DS to daycare in them. Honestly, I think it's my own insecurity because there are some high roller babies in DS's room wearing Polo and Burberry and there's DS rolling around in his jammies on the floor. Maybe I'm worried I look like a lazy mommy that can't even get my kid dressed??? I need to get over it though because we have a ton of them and very few shirt/pant/sock outfits. If not, I'm going to kill myself doing laundry or buy more clothes that we don't need just because I'm caving to the "dress code" of his room.

| My DS wore footie outfits, which I omehow distinguished from footie PJ's for about a month and then it was too warm (early APril baby). By the time it would have been cool enough for them, he seemed to old to be dressed like that (5 or 6 months) so I don't know what the cut off would be for me, but 6 months seemed old for that. He did continue to wear one piece rompers in the summer and winter until 18 months old when he really seemed all toddler and not at all baby. |
| My sons wore mostly these in the winter until they were around 9 months old. I saw the other kids at daycare dressed all nice, and always thought "wow, they look so cute..." I don't know if they figured I was too lazy or something, but I figure if its easier for me to change a diaper when they are in a sleep and play, then its easier for the caregivers. Less time changing a child = more time playing with children. I didn't worry about a nice outfit getting messy, nor worry if my child is uncomfortable. No issues with the child taking socks and shoes off. All in all, its perfectly fine and normal for them to wear sleep n play all day. |

I have an October baby who wore these one-piece PJs until this June. They look cute, easy and most importantly, you don't have to worry about his top riding up or pants sliding down. He was always warm and covered.
In summer he was 6-7 months and we switched to onesies with pants/shorts. Generally not a fan of tops for babies since they ride up so much. |
