My son hasn't gotten any reading books home yet. But I have friends in other classes who have. |
Our teacher said to expect a book home in the middle of the week. (We haven't gotten one yet.) Also reminded us that it may seem easy--both because the child will have read the book already, and also because they're working on additional things other than just decoding. |
At our school they are still assessing and forming groups. They told us they'd be done by next week. Groups will come out of all four 1st grade classes, too, so our kid might work with a different teacher for this subject. |
nope, my son was tested late last week apparently. |
I've asked my kid everyday and he still says he hasn't read with his teacher yet. But I know some kids have been placed in reading enrichment. |
MCAT Assessments don't end until the end of the month, which is when I expect to see reading groups. |
Good ol' MCPS. We have been in school for almost one month with no reading group placements. I am looking at private schools for next year if this craziness continues. We are not in math groups yet either. Are you? |
We don't start reading groups until around Halloween at our ES. Just relax people. Keep reading to and with your kids and they won't suffer. I promise. |
We got our first book today. Anyone know if they cap the kids reading levels just like in Kindergarten. For example at our school in K they wouldn't test past level 16 at beginning of year. My son apparently breezed thru a level J book but wasn't tested further.
It does get kind of frustrating. |
Let's give our teacher's a little bit of respect. How many kids are in your childs classroom? 19? 25? The teacher's have to sit and work with each child individiually as well as lead the class lesson, work on establishing rules and structure into the classroom. They have their hands full. And if its any indication of what my DS is telling me there even have a few problem kids that need a lot of extra attention. It will all come together. As as a parent reading at home is an easy way to supplement what is going on in the classroom. Last I checked it takes the first month to get everything up and running, come October we'll be getting plenty of books and other stuff our kids need to work on. Relax. |
DD got her 1st book on Tuesday of this week. She came home with a new book on Thursday. |
My son got his first book Friday. I was told they would have a new book every other day. |
So tired of hearing, 'my child is not challenged, breezed through all the books and reads on level w, math is too easy, he's bored...' If your child is that high performing why don't you send him/her to a highly academic private school?
(and this is coming from a parent of a child who reads and computes three levels above his grade, but I'm just happy he is in a good school and can ACE it) |
I'm sorry, but you are going to need to clarify the difference between you and the people you are complaining about. It is ok to boast about your high achiving child as long as you don't also say the child is bored? |
Well, my child is BELOW grade level in first grade. And I just meet with the teacher today about how to fix it if that makes you feel better. |
