Since my second child's birth, I haven't been back despite the best of intentions. It's just not a good time...I plan to run outdoors and find other ways to work out for now...
I have a great rate and will miss the Cycling classes, but I hate getting charged for something I am not using. How do I quit? (It's Fitness First). Will they make it tedious for me or just let me go? Is there some sort of "quitting fee?" TIA. |
did you sign up for a yearly contract? how long have you been paying? who cares waht they think- read your contract..
|
I've misplaced the contract, but will look for it. I hoped someone might know the details off-hand. I pay monthly and have been a member for over 2 years so if there was a 1 year requirement, I've exceeded it by far.
Just looking to hear what others' experiences have been before I go in there and get surprised by a fee. |
PP here- I quit after my year;s commitment- you just need to give 30 days notice- do it in writing now before 10/1- you are stuck paying October per the contract. Yes- I belinged to FF.
Take it to the manager and get an initial on your copy of the notice.. just being cautious on whether they "really got it" (PP AGAIN)
best way to quit is to not join at all
You may be able to transfer your membership to someone else. I had two gym memberships (one near work, one near home) and had to get rid of one of them when I had my daughter. I put the word out on Facebook/email and a friend of a friend bought my membership. It was attractive to her because I had a lower rate than what the club was offering, and she only had to commit to the months remaining on my contract, not a year.
I thought Fitness First did month-month contracts.
<insert tasteless joke about dying there>

Thanks to the PP with the info about the 30 days notice. That is the sort of info I was wondering about.

You're welcome- it;s not big deal but get it to the mgr- if you can get initials even better... but you need to do this now and recognize that October is gone (You owe this).. GL
I am a former Fitness First member. I had a 1 year commitment and then it went month to month. I had to give them 30 days' notice when it went month to month. You just sign a form - they didn't ask why and just told me that I was always welcome to come back. In my case, I wanted to try Sport and Health which offered more options.
Did your rate go down within the last 3-6 months or so? If so, your account probably got bumped to month-to-month and so all you haev to do is give notice. I think this was done automatically for everyone (it was for me & my spinning friends at least), the rate went to $19.95 a month with no contract. Easy as pie to leave!
You must fake your own death. It's the only way. Good luck.
At Fitness First you can also "freeze" your account and then if you want to start going again several months from now, you can go back without paying initiation fees, etc. They offered this to me when I quit during pregnancy (I didn't take it--I did what PP mentioned and quit, though I had to pay for the following 30 days during which I sadly never went).
