| Need to get our 5 year old glasses. Can anyone recommend a good place that would have some fun selections for that age range? We are in NOVA, but close enough to Dc or MD as well |

We used to go here when we lived in NOVA. Great customer service and very good selection of kids' frames. |

Boy or girl?
We use Lens Crafters because of their children's repair/replacement policy. It works very well for us. When DS was 2-5 years old, he would break his glasses at least every few months and would usually need a replacement pair. Lens Crafters would repair whenevery possible (many times I didn't think they could, but they did) and would let us move the lenses to another set of frames if they had the same style in stock (happened a few times). Price was reasonble, selection usually around 60-100 pairs, depending on the store. If you travel you can get them repaired/replaced at any location. |
My little boy also keeps breaking his glasses. We got his glasses from the online glasses vendor Zenni Optical which is much cheaper than Lens Crafters. And we always purchase multiple pairs as backups. Till now, we have not suffered any problems. Moreover, zenni also has a selection of more than 100 pairs for children’s glasses. |

Personally, I've worn glasses for ever and LensCrafters is ridiculously overpriced. I guess you pay for the 1 hr/quick service?

| I've been really happy with the quality and selection at Hour Eyes in Foggy Bottom. Prices are low (under $150), first replacement pair free, and reasonably good selection of frames for little ones. |
I used to go to Apex in Tenley, but now go to the one behind Montgomery Mall. I swear by Apex. they are the ONLY place I would go. I've done Lenscrafters and they have screwed up my prescription before, so I will never go back. I have no idea of their selection now, but as a really young child my parents took me to nickolson and Oldt on Rockville Pike (have no idea if they have another location). |
We used to go to all three Apex but the good staff have moved on and they've messed up for us a bunch of times (not doing glasses properly to not ordering the lenses - that happened twice). We went there for many years.
Now we go to Moda Optical. Maria used to work at Apex and opened her own store in Rockville. She has a huge selection of kids glasses and is very child friendly. (Its the only store I will let my toddler run around it and he loves going there). She saw a need for the kids and has gone out of her way to get cute styles and make them just right (as well as for adults). We've gotten 3 pairs from her in the past year for adults. http://www.modaoptic.com/ |
There are lots of places that do same day/1 hour service, but my kid's prescription is so strong that Lens Crafters is the only one that has them in stock. Everyone else has to order them. His prescription is for strabismus, and if he goes even one day without glasses his eyes start to cross. It is definitely worth the money to keep him in glasses continuously and not to wait a few days for a new pair. Lens Crafters repair/replacement policy works well for us too. |
