Do you need less sleep then you use to? I wake up at 4:30/ 5 AM!

Grant it I go to bed earlier then I use to, 10:00 versus 12:00 pm but I get up anywhere from 4:00 to 5:00 am. Even if I go to bed late, I get up that early. Although awake, I can't get the drive to do something substantial like cleaning or writing, occassionally ready but somehow my mind can't focus as well. Trying to motivate myself to do something substantial

~raising hand~

I try to use the time reading vs. playing on the computer/reading DCUM but I go to sleep close to midnight and I'm awake at 4:45 am. I go to sleep at 10:00 pm and I'm awake at 4:45 am. I go to sleep as late as 1 pm and -- I'm awake "late" at 5:15 am. (LOL!)

I was thinking about trying Melatonin (my kids take 3 mg each night to help them sleep) but I don't think sleep is the issue for me; it's the darn auto-alarm in my head.

I am 50, but have been waking in the middle of the night since my kids were babies, so 17 years. I hate it, but I think I got conditioned to wake up when they were young and haven't been able to quit. I know I need more sleep, because I am tired during the day, and I also have developed fibromyalgia. So, wonder if there's a link with the poor sleep.

Somewhere around 48 I became a morning person. I like to use the time to just sit with my coffee in the quiet waiting for the natural light to come in the window. For a period of about a year and a half, I was using the time to work out. It was great. I felt great and looked pretty good, but sadly I fell off the wagon. I have been hoping that sometime in the not so far future, that bug will bite me again. But for now I am just enjoying the silence.

No, I still need 7.5 hours. Not quite 50, though. Do you do serious cardio?

I still like to sleep, but the orthopedic issues make it hard to stay in bed for long. Neck and back pain.
I am not yet at the point where I get up at 6 am without something to do.

What I find is that I can go for days on 6 or 7 hours of sleep which I couldn't do when I was younger. However, I can't stand pulling all nighters. I can't figure out whether it's because I physically have problems doing it or I just don't care enough to stay up all night finishing something! I panic less these days!

I wake up at about 6:30-7:00. I used to need multiple alarms to get up at 7, now I can't sleep much past 7. I still go to bed late - 12:30ish.
