Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Read the book. Saw the movie (both the 2005 and 1995 BBC version). Prefer the characters of the 2005 version, but the length of the 1995 one.

Don't know why I'm so obsessed with this movie. I love it! All that angst.....sigh.

Are there any similar movies? Prefer to not watch something that will induce tears (a la The Notebook). Double points for books that were made into movies. I'm partial to "classic" stories vs the contemporary stuff.

TIA!

Did you see Lost in Austen? It's a BBC miniseries that takes a modern day P&P fan and puts her in the Bennet household-- much better done than you'd imagine.

North and South (the BBC series NOT the old US one) is another good miniseries from a book.

Don't know if you will like this or not but the movie, Clueless, a modern teen romance, is based on Austen's Emma. It's lots of fun figuring out who in the movie represents whom in book. And it's a good movie if you're into that sort of thing. First movie I ever saw Paul Rudd in and in a lot of ways I still think he is at his most attractive in this one.

Emma is also an interesting book. It's the only book of Austen's where I didn't automatically identify with the heroine. Like Cher in Clueless, Emma, while smart, is someone who thinks rather too much of herself and is a bit of a lightweight until she learns her much-needed lessons after reaping the results of her misguided attempts to interfere in other people's love lives. I ended up really liking her at the end.

Pretty much everything that comeon PBS Masterpiece Classics. Cranford was awesome (based on books of Elizabeth Gaskell) and in this instance the TV show was better than the books thanks in part to a fantastic cast (including Judi Dench).

My current obsession ie Downton Abbey, also on PBS. The first of the series has already aired (but will be rerun in December) and the continuation is supposed to air in the US in January 2012 (just started back up in the UK last week). I for one can't wait! Again an amazing cast (Maggie Smith steals every single scene she is in). Love it!

I really enjoy the 1995 movie of Jane Austen's Persuasion.

I think Persuasion was my favorite out of all those adaptations. I definitely prefer BBC's adaptation to Keira Knightley's P&P.

Back off! He is MY Mr. Darcy. Forevah!

Seriously, I love, love, love, the 1995 A&E/BBC version. It's when I fell in love with Colin Firth and rented/watched the entire mini-series with some friends in one sitting in 2002.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit, but once or twice a year I watch the whole thing in one awesome 5 hour stretch. DH makes plans to be out of the house on those days. Years ago I owned it on VHS; a few years ago I upgraded to DVD. (Hmm... wonder if it comes in BlueRay!)

It's already out. http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudice-Blu-ray-Colin-Firth/dp/B001E2JNA6/ref=sr_1_6?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1316044331&sr=1-6

I grew up in an old house that made creepy noise; now I can't sleep without the radio or the tv on. At night I'll put on a movie that I've seen already, turn the sleep mode on, and get under the covers. I used P&P for my *go to sleep* movie so long, that DH knows what's going on. "Ah Baby, not this bit again. Can we skip past Mr Collins being an idiot and go to Darbyshire? You'll be asleep in 10 minutes anyway."
