Recommend your credit card with cash back rewards

Anonymous
We currently use a Charles Schwab credit card that gives us 2% back on all purchases, but it was just bought by Bank of American and they're changing the terms. I do NOT want a card that rotates what it gives cash back on every 3 months (i.e., groceries for 3 months, hotels the next 3 months, etc.).

Does anyone have a credit card that gives at least 1% cash back (preferably 2%+) on all purchases that they recommend we switch to?

TIA!

American Express Blue Cash Premier.
$75 per year, but you get 6% back on groceries and 3% on some other stuff.

The Amex Premier is not quite as sweet as PP describes, but it does sound pretty good ...

The new Blue Cash Everyday card has no annual fee and no minimum spending requirements. It earns a 3% rebate at supermarkets, 2% at gas stations and department stores and 1% everywhere else.

The Blue Cash Preferred, on the other hand, has a $75 annual fee and earns a 6% rebate at supermarkets, 3% at gas stations and department stores and 1% everywhere else.
Rebates are earned in the form of Reward Dollars, which may be redeemed for statement credits, or additional items like merchandise and gift cards, whenever your available Reward Dollar balance is 25 or more.

The big difference between the new generation and the previous generation of the card, apart from the category changes, is that Amex has removed the tiered rebate structure. Whereas the old Blue Cash required annual spend of at least $6500 before you started earning 5% at gas stations, grocery stores and supermarkets and 1.25% everywhere else, the new versions have no such tiers. That means that from your first dollar in spend, you’ll earn 6% at supermarkets with the Preferred card (3% for the Everyday card), thus making it a more attractive option for lower or more moderate spenders.

The extra rewards of the Preferred sound nice. But how much a PITA is it to redeem the "Reward Dollars"?

To redeem Preferred, you go online to your account and click some buttons. The amount of your credit is automatically put on your statement. No hassle at all.

OP Here.

The AMEX card sounds great. Are there any Visa or Mastercard credit cards that also offer this kind of rewards? Some places don't take AMEX.

Thanks!

We have PenFed VISA. 1% cash reward. The awesome thing about it is that you get the reward as a credit on your statement every month, automatically. I don't have to do anything at all.

We use the Fidelity Visa

Turn 1.5% of purchases into a deposit in your Fidelity account (earn 2% once you've spent $15,000 annually)†
No limits on cash rewards
No annual fee

Redeemable for cash

Fidelity AMEX gives 2%, but since I like to stick with 1 credit card, AMEX isn't worth it for me, since it's not accepted everywhere

We have this card as well and love it. We also have the blue card. Finally, we buy a lot on Amazon and their visa does cash back which you can redeem at the check out - it is awesome.

Amex user here - just a suggestion -- before ruling out an Amex card, take a close look at which retailers do and don't accept it. I think its not really longer the case that retailers don't commonly accept Amex. I use my Amex for everything, and I only very rarely come across a retailer that accepts credit cards but doesn't accept Amex.

As a big user of points etc, I use Capital One and only use it to get airline tickets, the other products you can get are not worth it on points. They make it very easy to use for airlines and it is quick and seemless.

Amex blue cash. Cash back is auto applied to your balance. Have had it for years and have only come across a few merchants who didn't accept.

If you travel internationally- watch for the exchange rates - most charge pretty huge fees. Also- read the extended warranty program.. our amex has that it extends up to a year on mftr and extended warranty- that's very generous. The MC I have only extends a year if it's a warranty of up to a year.. Fortunately we knew this and put all of our major appliances on the amex..

i have a capital one mc for no international fees but not for warranty

basic amex blue cash card - no annual fee.. charge almost everything to this with no issues generally (usually dr's offices are the ones with the no amex policy)..
