I did not say that - you assumed it. I implied that it would be idiotic for someone to throw away their career to get back at a past employer. Whether this is a violation of ethics rules or not (it is definitely bad optics but I don't know about an ethics violation), there is no conflict of interest. Think it through. Where is the conflict of interest? What could it be?

So? You're alleging that his payment for work is problematic - but it's not. Payment for work is fine, even if you are spouses or affair partners or whatever.
