Great, but the D.C. Council isn't against these bike lanes, either. |
The expression of the council is through the budget. They have not yet approved the funds for this bike lane. Maybe they still will. Maybe they will consider it too expensive for now with other priorities more pressing. |
The council has been, with the exception of Trayon White, in support of multi-modal transportation enhancements like bike lanes. Everyone understands how important Connecticut Avenue is to the city wide network. |
Back to the dog whistles and euphemisms. Being in favor of bike lanes does not equal being in favor of permanently shutting down two lanes of Connecticut Avenue Being against permanently shutting down two lanes of Connecticut Avenue does not equal being against bike lanes or being anti-semitic. It does not appear that propoenents are aware of how important Connecticut Avenue is to the regional transportation network. |
They are well aware. They just think this will prompt everyone to discover a love for biking. |
| No, they understand that the transportation and land use paradigm of the last century is a failure, and it is time to do something different. |
The answer: replacing car lanes with bike lanes that no one uses. |
Whatever. They can say what they like. The proof of the pudding is the eating. Their support for it is expressed in the budget. Better hope the double whammy of declining residential and downtown commercial property values leaves enough revenue to pay for Dan Snyder’s football stadium and your bike lanes. |
You keep saying this but someone 30 pages ago explained in painful detail why the proposed changes actually improve conditions for drivers on the Avenue. Long story short, turn lanes are your friend, and there are still two through lanes in each direction. |
Declining downtown commercial property means fewer people needing to drive downtown during rush hour. Problem solved. |
I watched a recording. There were maybe 8 public citizens participating. And they were all youngish white guys. And all sort of needy. And, interestingly, half of them did not even live in Ward 3. |
This isn’t going to go the way you think it’s going to go. |
They didn't and the entire underlying basis 9f their explanation was the pipedream fantasy that there would be 1000% increase in bicycle commuters + 8,000 commuters who would go all the way around the beltway to GW parkway instead of driving through the side streets of NW. |
You watched the recording of one meeting. Every meeting means one meeting? That’s it? And you didn’t actually attend the live mtg? And what was that single mtg about? How did you find out about this one mtg? Were there announcements and materials provided in advance? People setting up the meeting for you? Others - volunteers BTW - running the mtg? More people ensuring the recording was available? How many other people watched the recording as you did? 10? 20? 100? It appears you do not have enough direct experience with ANC mtgs to make any sort of useful contribution. Lots more mtgs you can attend in future! Unless you’re too busy. |
Like I said, they were needy. Actually, they were exactly like you. |
