Flying with cats - how do i do it?

| i bought the airline approved carriers, and i will provide food and water. but what about the litter box?! and can i sedate them? |

| I have done it. You use puppy piddle pads to line the bottom of the carrier and then change them out as necessary in the bathroom or on stopovers. Unless it's a super long flight your cat might be too freaked out to go/will refuse to go in a confined space. You may be asked to remove the cat from the carrier at security. Get a full body cat harness with leash so you don't have a loose cat in the airport. Get an id tag with your cell number (cheap ones here: tagoffer.com) and make sure your cat is microchipped and that the registration for that is up to date. For me the worst part was at security when I had to take her out and she freaked at all the activity. I was soooo happy I had been told to get the harness. |

Ditto. I'm appalled that they allow cats on planes with so many people allergic to them. Can's you get a cat sitter? Or if you're moving, drive? I guess if the airlines allow it, then you can do it, but you might as well be smoking next to me and my asthmatic self as having a cat in a confined space like that. |

sorry - don't care. i'm moving 1700 miles away. i'm not driving a toddler for 35 hours in a car because you don't want to deal with my cat. the airline allows it so i'm doing it. sometimes it's not about you. |

Okay, I just said you can apparently do it because the airline allows it. But you are apparently an idiot to end with your comment there. You are choosing your convenience over the many folks who may not be able to medically deal with a cat in a confined space and then telling me I'm the self-centered one. If I was seated next to you, I would demand a refund- not because of the screaming toddler or the cat, but because you are surely an awful person to sit next to. |

| 21:14 here. I can't believe the snotty replies. Kudos to you OP for not being one of those people who decides it's too much trouble to move with a pet and dumps it off at a shelter to be euthanized. No one even realized my cat was with me. She sat quietly under the seat for the whole four flight. |

Look into Pet Airways, which flies only animals (dogs and cats).
Talk to your vet about sedation. I think it can compromise cats' airways and make breathing a problem. |

i get that it would bug other ppl, but i don't think the hissy fit about it on dcum was necessary. trust me, i do not want to fly with the cat. the thought of it makes me crazy, but i have no choice. and frankly i do think that flying is a public activity and if someone runs that much of an allergy risk in public then maybe they're the one that shouldn't be flying. |
