Yep. The thing to keep in mind is that these teams are already restraining themselves quite a bit in the interest of sportsmanship. They could score 30 to 40 goals easily if they wanted to. Even have talks about not celebrating too much, but they are kids and sometimes get excited when their teammates who have never scored before get a goal in the fourth quarter. |
| Marshall mom again, i hope this message finds you 21 (Yorktown), my son could not fathom why you would score against him. UwU |
You nailed it! |

| You think it's hard playing, or cheering, for a lacrosse team like Marshall? It's not easy for the players and coaches of better teams to play schools like Marshall either. The fact that Yorktown only put up 14 goals shows that the staff took it easy on the Statesmen. My son/team played Marshall earlier this year and, by far, they were the worst team I've seen in years. The games are boring as hell. So, mom, stop crying. You're season is over, thankfully, anyway... |
| Looking at #21 on Yorktown's stats on Maxpreps, he is a senior and has exactly one goal on the season. I doubt he has much of a reputation in the lacrosse circuit despite the Marshall player's comments to his mom. With McLean and potentially Langley games on the horizon and then Regionals, that was maybe the last time he plays in a lacrosse game in his life. If he wants to score in a game to end his career then who cares? Toughen up. |
| Marshall parent, how do you think the Mount Vernon and Lewis teams feel? |
Lewis lost 24-2 last night to Hayfield Wakefield lost 21-2 to McLean 14 total goals doesn't seem excessive at all. |
| Just went back to watch the end of the Marshall/Annandale game. When Marshall scored in the fourth quarter to go up 13-1 the players went crazy and celebrating all over the place. Why did they have to do that? Classless? |
The most likely reason this happens is that a bench player who rarely sees the field let alone scores goals finally get one in the back of the net. I think it is a good time to cheer that on. It is never classless to celebrate a score. Your description was celebrating. Unless there was mocking or unsportsmanlike behavior no reason to label it classless. At one time or another all players end up on both sides of these games. |
You went BACK to watch the end of the Marshall Annandale game?!? Ugh. Life is too short, you’ll never get that time back. |
Exactly my point. It was the same for the Yorktown player who got singled out by the Marshall mom. |
How ya feeling now, Marshall mom? This senior got a chance to play, and score likely his only goal of the season, to end his high school playing career. Maybe you need to toughen up a little bit. |

| As a Marshall parent at the game last night Yorktown scored 6 goals in the first 5 minutes and had 9 at the end of 1st. They didn’t play another starter after going up 12-0. They completely took their foot off the gas and I believe 21 took a big penalty shot from a Marshall player right before scoring. I just asked my son and he states not a single person mentioned the goal at all. He hadn’t even given another thought. They could’ve beat us by 35+ if they wanted to there was nothing we could do to stop them. I have more respect for the Yorktown coach after that game than before. |
