Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
|
Hi,
Do the kindergarten classes in fairfax county still have a nap or rest time? Just trying to get all of this figured out before school starts. Thanks |
| My daughter was in full day last year. No rest break. My son was in full day 4 years ago, they had a rest break for the first month and then dropped it. Probably varies by school/class. |
| Our FCPS has a half hour "rest" time. They don't want the kids to fall asleep, just rest. About 2/3rds way through the school year, I think they dropped it, but I'm not 100% sure. |
| I'm in FX with new full day K this year. Will they put the 4 yo/just 5s in the same group so some of the younger ones can nap? I didn't see nap mat on the school supply list. |
No, they won't. Good grief. |
| Good grief? Someone is asking a question, and by the sound of it is a first-time K parent. Why not help vs judge? |
There are like 3 threads going on right now with moms freaking out over idiotic concerns related to Kindergarten. It's Kindergarten. Not Afghanistan. Kindergarten. Maybe some people should have spent the last few years making gradual adjustments to prepare their children for school. It's not like this sprung up on you. |
| With all the red-shirting, are there really any four year olds or young 5s left to start K? |
You're right. If I had an Ivy League education I am sure I would know that. Let me go back to my mediocrity now. |
Actually the full day K did spring up on everybody and wasn't finalized until the last week in May. Sorry I didn't want to spend the summer getting my 4 year old to sleep by 7:30 when all the neighborhood kids are still running around playing kick ball. |
| I seem to remember hearing that VA required some rest period for (at least) 4 year olds, maybe all of K. I didn't pay attention to it at the time because FX K was half day. |
| Ask your school, I'm sure they will be happy to tell you. We asked during orientation in May and were told to bring a beach towel for rest time and that some of the students napped while others just took a rest break. The beach towel was also on the supply list. It might vary from school to school, so just call and ask. Good luck with your little one! We are excited for K to start! |
We don't have orientation, just an open house right before school starts. I called the front office but the lady was nasty. Do you know how long the little ones can nap for? |
| Our students were asked to bring a towel. It wasn't on the supply list, though, but instead it was at the Open House. The children napped for about the first month. |
The children napped for the first month? That is an really long nap. I my kid slept that long, heck, even only a few days straight, I would take her to a neurologist |
