The children napped for the first month? That is an really long nap. I my kid slept that long, heck, even only a few days straight, I would take her to a neurologist

Heehee.

The REST time is 30 min.

My ds did FCPS K last year. They rested for 30 minutes each day until around March when they stopped b/c it didn't seem necessary anymore to the teacher. We sent a towel/small blanket every Monday and they'd send it back each Friday to be washed.

The teacher would play soft music while the kids rested. They did not want the kids to fall asleep b/c then they'd be hard to wake up. As far as I understand, it is a requirement.

DD was in FDK last year in FCPS. No rest period at all. She was fine.

So from what I've read on the few thread regarding this: a nap in K seem to be 1) a requirement; or 2) not done at all; or 3) up to the teacher to decide. And the nap sometimes means sleep and sometimes means no sleep.

I would plan on no nap.

My son had rest time in K. I think it was about 15 mins long and the teacher had the kids lay down on towels that they brought in each week. Nobody actually slept. He would play quiet music but by the spring, the kids would just have some extra play time instead of resting.

I asked the nurse at my Fairfax school where they are just going from 1/2 day to full day, and she said the school would have a rest period for the K students. We did not have a towel or blanket on the supply list though.
