Selecting a neutral nursery color

I have the decorating taste and ability of a color-blind sloth- yes I'm lazy about it too. We have a room we need to paint before kid#2 comes along, and we are (again) not finding out the sex. We don't really get into the full on nursery theme decoration thing (nothing against it, just not our priority right now) but would like a nice neutral yet attractive shade for the kiddo. Haven't even started looking at paints yet (fear? lazy? procrastination?) but do those shops have books with sample rooms or ideas on how to choose a color? I'd like something more than tan or eggshell or white - not that boring. Only painting the room because frankly it's an awful color right now and I don't want to be looking at it when I'm with the newborn all the time!

I like soft yellows. We used Benjamin Moore "Moonlight" for a children's room.

Yellow is nice. So is a light mint green. I also really like pale blue for either gender. If it's a girl, you can add pink accents like her name in white letters with pink ribbon to make it more feminime.

i know someone who did black and white. Not very babyish, but her reasoning was that babies actually love black and white because they can decipher easily between the two. Me I did native american theme...lots of beiges and creams with bright primary color accents.

We did soft yellow, and then painted a "sky" on the ceiling -- pale blue all over with white puffy clouds.

We went with Cedar Key by Benjamin Moore, (like a soft khaki), and then did a stencil in ivory. It looked great. Then you can match anything to your walls, etc. We ended up with a yellow, sage green color scheme. I don't know the first thing about decorating, etc., and had fun with it.

The rest of our house looks like college students live there.

We used BM's Putnam Ivory, which looks like a yummy cream/pale butter yellow. It works great with the blues, greens and reds that we added in. Next house, I may use it again with a pale blue ceiling (no clouds, though). Or, if its a girl, I may do an extremely pale pink with chocolate brown and ivory stripes.

I bought bedding ("Avery", though there are a bunch) manufactured by Caden Lane - it's their neutral set. Really nice, bolder colors if you're not as into pastels. There's a nice celery/lime green in that pattern that would look great on a wall and be completely gender-neutral.

We're waiting to find out the sex. Our walls are a nice light green shade and our bedding will have soft neutral colors (primarily yellow with some green).

I knew we were having a girl for my first pregnancy but I still wanted a "neutral" nursery. We chose a soft yellow for the walls and a Noah's Ark theme wallpaper border. The linens we chose are white with stripes/plaid of light green and blue. We got a braided rug from Pottery Barn Kids with yellow, green, and blue. I am now pregnant with a boy and we plan to keep everything as it is!
