I really hope she contacts the DC Office of Attorney General. That is unlawful retaliation, on top of wage theft. Shame on Whittle! |
| The parents of seniors that are throwing in money to drag out this fiasco have different interests than the non-senior students, who need to get an education this Spring and who need to move on to viable schools. It’s too bad the former are abetting the avoidance of an orderly wind-down, which would best serve most of the students. |
Oh students just like myself are definitely reading DCUM! We're having a great time watching you all gossip about our failing school while you should be raising a child! :o Yeesh, wouldn't want my kid to end up like some of yall... The funniest thing is though, the vast majority of yall aren't even involved in the school - what good does it do you to sit around on a forum instead of helping your child with homework or organizing a playdate? What's crazy too, is that half the shit yall say isn't even true...
Look, I'm in no way defending CW for anything he's done. As someone who is actually affected by the situation, I'm worried for my future and disappointed with CW, his team, and even some of the admin at the DC campus. And while we've gotten the news that some funding has come through, I really don't see the school holding up. You can blame our parents for not pulling us out earlier, but the reality is we're stuck here at least through the end of the year. But to those who aren't affected (and I mean this in the nicest way possible)... why the hell do you care? Don't use the excuse that "Chris Whittle is a criminal who needs to be locked up and we're concerned" because a bunch of failed parents sitting around gossiping on a forum won't do shit. If the public wants to know, they can go read the articles or ask someone who knows what the hell their talking about. Get off your asses and go do something with your lives, and let the relevant and affected people handle the situation. |
How do you expect the school to make it to the end of the year? |
Facts! |
Why did people not swindled by Tinder Swindler watch the documentary? It’s a slowmo crash in our midst. A modern day bonfire of vanities and greed |
Are you one of the 3 seniors? Given the class size, chances are. Don’t be rude. Not a good look. People care about teachers and the little guy and your classmates |
I’m curious which schools you came from to Whittle? How was your experience? What do you think is the best case scenario here for your junior classmates? |
Not the PP. No, you don’t care. You are a ghoulish bystander on the side of the road watching a car fire and speculating about how much was the passengers’ fault. Rude? This whole thread is rude. Not a good look? Check the mirror. |

If people were only interested in commenting on things that directly affected them, the news cycle would grind to a halt and instead of watching events unfolding in Eastern Europe tonight, you'd be watching a riveting news report about traffic conditions in front of your home. Would that make your life richer?
"Facts" are that many of us - even those not directly involved in the school - have dealt with CW and his cronies over several years or have at a minimum been observers of many of his shenanigans. And while this forum may not be the front page of the Post or the NYT, it at least provides a platform to discuss and in Whittle's case, warn, people about things that might end up directly affecting them. Do you think the Whittle Admissions office is telling prospective parents the truth? Did they tell your parents the truth? If so, and your parents still decided to enroll then fair enough. And even if (as you noted) not all the facts on this site are correct, I'm certain that they paint a thoroughly accurate picture of the overall state of the school. We didn't make up the liens and judgments and lawsuits totaling tens of millions. Nor did we cause the foreclosure. We didn't ask the founding faculty to run for greener pastures (which they mostly did). And we certainly aren't the reason the school ran out of money and couldn't make payroll. If you can let us know which of those facts the posters on this site got wrong, I'm happy to hear them. BTW - what was astonishing was that many current parents discovered those FACTS here... And parents for the most part (except for those still drowning in the kool aid) were grateful for the information so they could make more informed choices rather than relying on the vague, incomprehensible and downright deceptive communiques from school "leadership". If that saves even ONE more family from falling for Whittle's snake oil pitch, then its well worth it. |
What you students don’t understand is that a lot of us work in venture capital, private equity, law, or education and have professional interest in this story, in the same way you might find an important soccer game interesting. I could totally see Chris Whittle being the subject of a business school case study. No one is interested in violating your individual privacy. But as onlookers to the crash of a hubris-propelled venture? For that, you are stuck with us. |
| Does Perry stein not write about independent schools? |
No - we're making sure that the truth about the car being on fire is at least posted somewhere. Because if you believed the owner of the car, you'd think the fire is actually part of the paint job and helps with fuel economy |

I had something longer half written earlier but this student captured it. If you've been around DCUM long enough you realize in every thread there are reasonable people and there are trolls. Some people are here because despite all the noise there is some true information. Some just have an axe to grind. Maybe they got burned by Whittle in the past, maybe they are just small and sad inside. Some people seem to just take joy in others' misfortune. I can't explain it, but I do know that there are reasonable people who care about the students and teachers on this thread too. Ignore the people who say the parents are stupid, or rich and entitled (or maybe not rich or cheap because they pay nothing?), that the teachers are terrible, that the students couldn't get into other schools, or that they are so far behind they will have to repeat a year. They don't know what they are talking about. What happened to the school is sad and there is plenty of blame to pass around, but those of you are just here to kick people when they are down can F right off. And by the way, the people who say the school was a scam from the beginning and everyone should have known better should go google Elon Musk's failed businesses before Tesla. Failing once or even multiple times doesn't mean a person cannot succeed the next time. It could be that the school was doomed from the beginning because of CW's financial mismanagement, but there was no way that parents could have known that at the time. Finally, to the poster who claims to have been dealing with Whittle for years: get a life my dude. If you're not now involved with him why are you stalking parent boards just to dance on the grave of his latest venture? We get it. You think he's evil incarnate. Maybe he is. But coming here isn't warning anyone of anything. It's just your personal obsession and it's not healthy. Think about it. |
