I would love to find a great modern home in the area, but I don't have $1million budget...
Is there a website or realtor that specializes in this? |
Be more specific as to what you're looking for and what you can afford. There aren't realtors who specialize in "modern homes" but they may be familiar with specific areas where such homes are located. |
|
What do you mean by "modern", anyway?
Modern is a specific time period in design of homes, not common in this area. |
| If you mean contemporary, try Carderock. |
| Try modern capital blog. |
| There's a neighborhood south of Old Town that is full of 60s era modern homes called Hollins Hill. |
| There are little enclaves of modern ("contemporary") homes all over the DC area. There's a little neighborhood of them in Falls Church right by the W&OD trail East of the Beltway - I run past them on the trail, but don't know the neighborhood name. There's a neighborhood of them near Springfield and another one near Herndon. (my friend owned one of those.) They are scattered through quite a few Arlington neighborhoods, though I don't know of any areas of all modern homes in Arlington. (we saw a few - very few - in a recent search under $600K.) I'd probably make a list of counties in which you'd consider living, and then plug them into the MLS websites and search on "Contemporary" styles. |
You mean Hollin Hills. There are also a lot of contemporaries in Lake Barcroft in Falls Church. Great Falls and Bethesda also have quite a few modern homes although they are pricier. |
| There are also some in Mantua in Fairfax. |
| Oakton has a bunch. |
|
Check out Forest Hills (DC) if you have a lot of money. There are several in that area.
Also Truro in Annandale. I like the original comptempories including the skyview and gardenview models: http://www.trurohomes.org/html/house_models.html |

| There's a neighborhood called Hammond Woods off of Veirs Mill Road in Silver Spring 20902 with homes by the same architect as Hollin Hills - Charles Goodman, I think? Small but less than $500K - often way less. |
