| Loudoun, PPA, and Arlington all eliminated in Group play at Eastern Regionals. Bethesda was the only team to advance from Maryland or Virginia. |
| A lot but not usually as many on the very top team, those players are more committed to the sport than players on middle or lower teams |
| A lot. My experience says mostly players that do not get a lot of playing time, low level club players. I think the majority of players in Rec soccer also hang up their cleats by 9th grade. That explains why there are not a lot of Rec teams at the high school level. |

A lot of rec players pick up other sports in the high school years that you just need to be a good athlete for, and some basic skills coaching.
kicker/punter for football, field hockey, outdoor and indoor track and field, cross country, other sports like frisbee, rugby etc. |
Surprised. I always thought girls were stronger than boys in this area (and I continue to believe this). 2009 boys from DMV had 4 of the top 5 teams in group play, advancing 3 to the semis. How many teams were in group play on the girls side? It’s too bad because so many of these kids won’t play for clubs or teams that allow them to play this tournament again. |
What is so special about this tournament? |
At U12 it’s open. Anybody can play. No league prevents teams from participating. |
| Bethesda lost in Overtime 2-1 to #1 Matchfit Shore in the Region I final. Excellent showing for DMV. |
|
And the Bethesda 2009 boys won eastern regionals. Pretty exciting for Maryland soccer — the top two 2009 boys teams in the region are from
MD. |
Yep. Both are really good teams. DMV had four of the five top boys teams in the eastern regionals. Good for that bethesda team to avenge a 6-1 state cup final loss to the same team in the east regional final. |
And I think quite a few people would add that the best two MD boys teams were not even in the eastern regionals. That age group looks good. We will see how they progress as they get older over the next few years. |
Who would argue that? Both state cup and regionals actually had the top two MD boys teams playing each other. |
Pipeline played a year up in top division of edp all year. They played a year up in top tourneys including Jeff cup all year. They are the best 09 team in MD and easily won top bracket of Jeff cup in their age group in 2020. SAC is also really really good. They beat ppa in a tourney towards end of year after losing to them in state cup and have traded wins with Bethesda throughout the year. My only point was that it is an incredibly competitive age group in Maryland. |
How did Pipeline 08s make out the day before the big PDA win?

Glad we got back to girls since this is a girls thread. That post you quoted is three months old. That poster is probably reconsidering now. VDA is obviously a better team in the 2008s. One could easily argue for Loudoun or Bethesda in 2009s. I heard Bethesda almost beat the #1 team in the country at Regionals and also advanced out of the group Loudoun was in. Next season will be interesting moving to 11v11. |
