Ha! I actually loved that post. I found it entertaining. The APE crowd got pretty touchy when someone had the gall to ask who was on their medical steering committee.

I had not paid attention to that but now I do find it really odd that this group formed a medical steering committee. Who ARE these people and how much time do they have on their hands... first all those signs and now this?

APE is batsh@t crazy!

That’s mean. I take it back. A lot of people are under a lot of stress and they are making decisions and or comments without really using their brain or their heart.

Because they WILL return and will possibly infect your kids. They can carry the virus even after they are vaccinated - parents please be aware of that. Thank goodness there will be masks, but lunch is VERY concerning. I am not suggesting we don't return, we just need more mitigations in place.

At this point, I would be OK with half-day school to avoid lunch. Half days with math, language arts, science /social studies trade-off. specials remain remote.

It's Time to get creative but back in class!!!!

I have the same problem. I know some in my neighborhood. One is fairly nice, but definitely doesn’t think CoVID is a thing. One wants her kids to be able to socialize at school, because she’s so nuts, no one will set up play dates with them. I don’t know if she is aware of that- that she is the problem. One family is pretty nice... I can’t figure out why they got in bed with these people. I mean, that’s the thing- maybe they want schools open, and put that sign up, but...some of these people ARE nuts. They’ve convinced themselves this is the right thing. They BASH teachers. Also... all of them have means, but talk extensively about the needs of low-income families. If you cared about that kid before, how come you never, ever invited them to a birthday party?

If you tell your kid from day one that virtual school is the worst thing that ever happened to them, and they won’t learn anything.... you have created your own self-fulfilling prophecy. That’s the case with one of them- she’s had her kids involved in all of this shit since this summer. No wonder they’re depressed, hate their teachers, etc.

I’m sorry, but it’s true. And yeah- I am sorry. They are just kids, and I know these people love them very much. They do, but it’s all really messed up, and some of them don’t see it.

I think half days would be good! Maybe in two shifts, for five days a week? Now that staff will be vaccinated, I feel like that is a real and viable possibility. It’s not helping anyone work, but now they is hybrid- or having a really ill child or family member at home.

I meant, neither is hybrid!

Half days would not have enough time for anything other than language arts and math. Specials would be remote/prerecorded in the afternoon as well as science and social studies asynchronous. With busing there would t be enough time for those in a 3 hour day. We do an hour of math and 1.5 or reading and writing combined.

Me too - and if APS is having a hard time getting teachers back in the classroom, I'm willing to bet there are teachers in other parts of the country that earn much less that would be willing to relocate and take their spot for the major pay increase. We need to start thinking about alternative ways to make this happen, but I do think there is an end in sight, one way or the other.

No, there isn't. If it were anywhere close to true, APS would be required to report it and it would turn up in the Covid outbreak dashboard for Arlington (there have been zero in K-12 schools in Arlington County for the entire pandemic). You only need two confirmed cases in a facility to have it be listed as an outbreak.

Also worth noting that the tweet appears to have been deleted.

If you look on the latest on AEM, an APS staff person who works with the superintendent posted that they did indeed announce 55 have been infected, however that includes staff not working in person in schools. The major issue is that there’s been no transparency on this unlike other local counties.

Yeah and why did this have to leak through staff and then AEM before he admitted that? Come on APS. Other schools are disclosing Covid cases. Be better.

This is what I’m talking about. This is not a teacher problem, lady. We’re on the middle of a historical pandemic. Damn right- we do treat our teachers better than they do in other parts of the country. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do AND- in this case- it’s a matter of public health and safety. The teachers want a vaccine. I don’t think that unreasonable. Then, they’ll go back. Have you read this thread at all?!

Anonymous wrote:There were actually two fights shut down today. One started when a physician posted some additional information on hospitalization statistics to correct what she said were errors by someone else's prior post. I honestly don't have the interest in sorting through that one to figure out who's misrepresenting data on what, but it got pretty unpleasant in the comments before the moderator shut it down a few hours later.

Then about an hour after that, the lawyer started a new discussion to personally attack the physician who posted earlier (and others). That one got shut down within an hour.

A physician is putting herself out there on AEM? Umm, that does not seem normal. Is she one of the APE crowd?

Oh yes. Full on APE sign waiver. The posts said she's an anesthesiologist at VHC.

So get this. When some study showed it's not good to open schools, this doctor personally emailed the author to try to get him to change his mind. Then she posted on AEM that the data was wrong. As best I could follow, SHE (doctor) was wrong. It was hard to follow. But I found it scary that one of our local doctors would go to such lengths when the study didn't jibe with the open now agenda. This is Covid denial.

Not a good luck for VHC.

Like many specialist, Anesthesiologists are upset that their profits have been hobbled by Covid (fewer elective surgeries). Not who you want to be taking epidemiological advice from. I mean, Trump got a bunch of Covid-denying anti-masking doctors to hold a rally. There are idiots in every profession, including medicine. APE seems like it’s getting a big assist from the Rs on Capital Hill, based on who’s posting on Twitter, and they’re posting to every local jurisdiction. Seems like a ploy to engender hatred of teachers and public schools.

Aaah, well this could explain it.

I wonder if VHC knows what she's doing. VHC is doing so much for the community vaccinations and those great posts from the head of their ER. Sad to be undercut by a nutso anesthesiologist who doesn't think covid is a bid deal or has an ulterior motive.

She puts herself right out there as a member of the Steering Committee for APE. It's on their website.

If I am ever getting surgery and see her coming my way, I will run!
