You suck. You do realize a lot of people are driving Uber out of necessity and can’t afford a bad review? I am sure you made the driver extremely uncomfortable. |
Again, I wasn't looking for support. You're right that if I was looking for support or validation I would have posted in the SN forum. Instead I was looking for ideas of things that would make the hysterical DCUM crowd more comfortable. I got a few ideas (stroller, rain cover, time of day), but perhaps the main takeaway is that there's no accommodating the crazies. Though most of those posters probably just stay home anyway, making them mostly a non-issue. |

Funny how this idea that the OP was “looking for ideas” is a total fiction when compared to the original post of “what do parents think about this”. Perhaps this evolution came about because parents think the OP is selfish.
I hope the bank teller and any other bank staff who weren’t asked whether they and their families were comfortable with your needlessly putting them at risk are all fine. |
I hate that I have to agree with this. As a parent of a child with SN, I know how hard it is. But, the selfishness is unbelievable. And, don't say that one missed appointment will make or break your child. |
“The crazies” and then insults about people who are actually following the public health guidelines? This from someone with an SN child? One would think you’d be a little more sensitive about language and labelling. I don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish, OP, but you’re not helping the SN a community or the community at large. I’d call troll, but I want people to see how the truth usually comes out. |
Public health guidelines include exceptions for children that cannot wear masks for medical or developmental reasons. Almost everyone understands that except the the DCUM community and MoCo. |
+1 WTH OP, I feel so bad for your uber driver. |
Except in the case of the OP there’s no reason the kid needs to wear a mask, because there’s no reason the kid needs to be on these errands other than an irresponsible adult thinks curbside and delivery are for other, lesser, people. This is endangering people for the joy of wandering the aisles of Target. That’s not what the public health exemptions envisioned... |

I live in outer MoCo and there are unfortunately plenty of redneck no Maskers here (think, area where the neighbor was stealing the BLM banners.) I don't say anything, because I don't want to get into a fight. I wouldn't say anything to a parent with an unmasked child. But I do think OP could figure a way not to take the kid to the grocery store. Bank, maybe not so much, as their hours are constrained. But if you have a partner / dh you live with, who is not deployed or traveling for work, I would think they could look after their kid one night a week, or a couple hours on the weekend, while you go to the grocery store. |
And did OP run into any issues on her outing? People care because they are tired and burnt out from this. They care about their health, and that of others, Of course they are going to be passionate about it, especially on an anonymous board. There’s nothing “crazy” about people wanting life to go on. |
Its not just the redneck/Trump folks acting poorly, its everyone. Its fine to have a child unmasked but they really should be home regardless. |
You’ve pretty much nailed it. The people who actually do some errands in person (the horror!) are not generally all that hysterical. Also, MoCo is an outlier with having kids wear masks starting at 2. Anywhere else you go, young kids are generally not wearing them. FWIW, I can generally avoid taking my kids on errands although I take 4yo to the outdoor farmers market (he is ok wearing a mask). But I have way more things to worry about than get all crazy judgmental over those that need to. Let’s all just do the best we can. |
Olney is not "outer Moco". And I haven't seen hardly anyone here without masks; just an occasional kid not wearing it, but oh well. Not really a big deal. |

If you can find a way around it, do so. But if not, I think bringing him along maskless is fine.
